I’d love your thoughts on this woman ladies! I’m not American so had no idea who she was until someone suggested her books here. I downloaded the audio book of The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands and loved it, I’ve already started applying some of her advice and it’s really helped in terms of my attitude and my husbands response.

I then downloaded Parenthood by Proxy and all I can say is yikes! While she makes a few good points she shows herself as a very nasty person, she’s overtly homophobic, belittles minorities and the working class and really appears to have no understanding of options available to the average family.

Her premise is essentially that if you’re not a straight, married, middle class or higher full time SAHM you should not have children, probably helps yo be white too. I’m all these things and still found her highly offensive.

I went and did some background reading into her, so while she may have managed to be mostly at home with her son she was around 40 when she had him so was already established financially and career wise.

She lambasts people who divorce their spouses or have children alone yet she’s divorced, and has had two affairs with married men with children, one of which left his family to be with her so she doesn’t really care about marriage, children and families if they’re inconvenient to her. She also lived with him out of wedlock for years even though she demeans unmarried couples “shaking up.”

She appears to be a total hypocrite and a pretty awful person. I’ve also read that her son turned out to be a total creep so I really don’t understand how her advice can be credible.
