You should never expect to be upgraded. Men only upgrade FWB’s when they don’t believe they can get anything better, otherwise you would already be his gf, not his FWB.

A FWB from a mans perspective is often that...with no intent beyond x minutes of passion. Not thinking about what we're doing the next day. From his perspective it he's truly looking at it as a FWB, he's not initiating a LTR. I wouldn't, but when she brings it up and he kills it, that's the hint. Both entered into it with the understanding. One catches feelings...it's time to find another FWB. Remember how/why you both entered into the arrangement. Honestly, if you ask him...and he shoots you down. Start backing away because only you will be hurt. He's gonna ping you for a hookup...if you're game...continue it, but remember, he already made it clear there will be no relationship escalation.

You have to be honest with yourself and ask if you could bring more to the relationship? Could you improve your domestic skills? Your appearance? Your this? Your that? To take away his freedom and sexual variety you have to offer something to balance that out.

I have a counter-question for you. What incentive does HE have to upgrade you?

If you can't come up with solid reasoning as to why HE would want to upgrade you, then he won't.

You’ve been in what resembles a LTR for 6 months.

From your comments, it sounds like you could do FWB or LTR, and you have no timeframe.

*Why are you seeking commitment from others when you have not committed to yourself and discovered without a doubt what you want?

When you are ready to commit to him, you will be willing to risk what you have to gain something of more value for both people.

*Ask yourself: What value will a LTR bring myself and bring him if we were to upgrade?

*Most importantly, ask: Why this guy?

When a FWB may feel like it’s time to upgrade: length of time together, shared activities, catching feelings, being single, seeking distraction from self development.

When a FWB is ready to upgrade: You can answer the above questions* with strength and clarity. Without a doubt, this is the guy for you. And you’re willing to walk if he’s unsure or says no.

When you know what you want, you won’t be concerned with rocking the boat.

Know your future — know what you want. Commit to yourself. Then act.

If he wants you to be his girlfriend, he will ask you. The fact he hasn't means that he might like you, but doesn't see you as wife material. Men are very simple in that regard. If he wants you to himself, he will make you aware of that. You should walk away.
