Can’t speak for every man. Some like hot some like cute. I’ve watched a sports show and the wives of the athletes were shown and I would say those definitely choose on the „cute „ side. I wonder if the psychology of it that those women appeared more approachable, homely and project less danger ?

You can be both in different contexts. The combination is the best. Let's be real, Disney Princesses are hot, albeit in a more G rated way then some insta girl. Guys will lust over the insta girl but they don't marry her. Still too cutsey is childlike and not sexy. Also innocent IS and CAN BE hot. So based on this statement, I don't think he was calling you cute.

Still the best bet is the combination. Men need to be sexually attracted to you. But so much of this is in the personality and girl game you have going. Your personality and how you present yourself is going to play a big role in how you are perceived.

I went down this rabbit hole a while back and what I came out with was that cute is wholesome, endearing, and generally attractive. Hot is intensely physically attractive. So cute is more the girl a guy would want to marry and hot is the girl a guy would want to bang. HOWEVER, to the right guy, a girl is both cute and hot. My husband tells me I am cute and hot all the time. They go together.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to be hotter. I keep seeing on social media these women that are documenting their journey because "women in their 30s are getting hotter" and you know what, I want to be hotter! But keeping in mind that you will get more meaningless attention from guys. I want to do it to feel better about myself and to give my husband the gift of a hot wife, which I believe is a flex for guys. If you are dating, then I would just caution you to make certain you keep your head about you and vet the guys hard!

As to the second part of your question on how to do it...I am not sure about where you are starting from but working out and building muscle, not like body builder type, but generally toned and fit looking is always attractive. Try looking at women that on socials that you think are attractive/hot, see what they are doing, and start integrating those things in your life. Perhaps not my favorite example, but look at Sabrina Carpenter. If you put her in a the right outfit, she would definitely give off Disney princess vibes, but she doesn't style herself that way. Not saying to copy her, but just to illustrate my point.

I think the difference between cute and hot is a very interesting question to look at through the lens of evolutionary psychology.

As another comment pointed out, guys are generally more interested in serious relationships with cute girls and casual sex with hot girls. I think the two sides would be better described as cute vs sexy, with hot somewhere in between but closer to sexy than cute.

Why do these two different types of female attractiveness exist? It's because they serve different purposes. What we call sexiness is men finding a woman attractive for short term mating and what we call cuteness is finding a woman attractive for long term mating.

There are of course features that are common to both sexiness and cuteness such as a symmetrical face, youth, clear skin, and other indicators of fertility/health. But what differentiates them?

What features are considered sexy? Typically tall, large breasts, a bit of athleticism, confidence, maybe even a little bitchiness. The face is usually a little more masculine with sharper features due to more testosterone. Most importantly though, is ease of sexual access. These qualities are considered sexy rather than cute because they make a woman more suitable for a short term mating strategy. If you are a man living thousands of years ago and want to impregnate a woman and then leave (the male short term mating strategy), then it is best to do so with a woman who is more capable of taking care of herself (larger, athletic, confident, more testosterone) and already has some energy stored up in her breasts. And obviously the woman being willing to engage in sex without requiring much investment is a huge plus as well. "Sexy" clothes that reveal a lot of skin can be an indication a woman might be more willing to engage in casual sex.

What features are considered cute? Being small, shy, kind, innocent, a soft, round, feminine face, and most importantly, loyal and not willing to engage in casual sex. These qualities make a woman a better long term mating option. Being small means she doesn't need to eat as much so she is easier to provide for. She isn't as able to protect herself, but that doesn't matter since the man will be around to protect her. Being kind makes her a better mother and doesn't need much confidence or a mean streak to protect herself. Being innocent, which in this case primarily means in a sexual sense, makes it more likely that she is fertile. Birth control did not exist for most of our history so if a woman has had many sexual partners then it is very likely she is either already pregnant or not very fertile, which are both very undesirable for mating. Loyalty is massively important to men for long term relationships since unknowingly providing for children that aren't yours for your entire life is basically the same as dying in terms of evolution.

Also, youth is more important for cuteness than sexiness because if you are only going to impregnate a woman once and then leave then it doesn't matter if she is 28 and her fertility is going to decline in a few years. But if you are going to stick around and raise a family then it would be great if the woman could give you many children, in which case you want her to be young so that she has time before her fertility starts to decline.

To answer the original question, generally men prefer hot if they are looking for something casual or cute if they are looking for something more serious. Some men may have a preference for hot vs cute even outside of their intentions as well. I think more masculine men are more likely to prefer cute. So whether it is better to be hot or cute depends on your goal. If you want a long term relationship, which is the goal of this sub, then it is much better to be cute. If you want short term casual sex (which from an evolutionary perspective is a poor mating strategy for women that is only done out of desperation), then it's better to be hot, but really it doesn't matter because it is very easy to have casual sex with men.

"Hot" is just a body thing. To look more hot you wear revealing clothes, but there is no need for that. I guarantee men already thing you're hot, don't worry about it. If you're really insecure about your body just go to the gym to lose weight (not too much) and maybe work on glutes... that's the most you will ever need.

Cute is much harder to achieve and and, as other have said, it's a big part in becoming more attractive. If he's likes you, you don't need to worry about that insecurity of yours. It really is irrelevant. Men's "wife goggles" give you a big leeway on that aspect when they're into you.

Also strategically speaking, being "all hot, no cute" will attract more men who just want to use you for sex, so being cute and reserved is the best choice for finding and keeping a man.
