Hii so I posted a little while ago asking for advice on RPW at university - the responses were amazing so thank you so much for that.

In that post I mentioned wanting to improve my teeth as they are crooked, and I was considering getting braces.

I am insecure about them and I never smile with my teeth at people or in photos as a result, so getting better teeth so I can do this would be ideal however, braces for me will now cost around 1/2k and possibly 4K if they insist on putting braces on my lower teeth too - but my lower teeth are fine and straight it is just my top teeth.

I am debating whether it is worth the money, as I’m not sure how I will be able to afford it. (I am from the UK btw) the NHS cover braces for under 18s and I will be 18 in a month, but I still need to improve on my dental health as I have gum inflammation and they will not put braces on me if my oral hygiene is poor.

My previous boyfriends and friends have not said anything about my teeth in the past, however after I broke up with my first boyfriend he told me to ‘fix my teeth’ and my second boyfriend brought up had I ever considered getting braces but nothing more than this. It is because of the money that I am questioning whether or not it is worth it.

I am considering spending my student loan on going towards the braces however this may not leave me with very much money for academic things like textbooks, transport costs (I am commuting) and hobbies such as societies.

What do you guys think? Has anyone here had braces? I am also kind of worried as I already look very young for my age (I have been ID’d for a 15 age film in the cinema before while being 17... ya) that braces will make me look even more juvenile and boys may be put off by this! I have had 2 boyfriends whilst having my current teeth so I guess it’s not a major problem but I just wanted to know what you guys thought about this :)

Also, if anyone has any dental products they reccomend and in particular for whitening teeth I’d love to try some of them out!
