What kind of discussion are you referring to?

“I hear ya” as a response when I’m talking about feeding the cats is one thing, but when I’m talking about something that happened at work or in our lives, I would want more than I hear ya.

I do a lot of ‘repeat’ responses, regardless of the type of discussion we’re having. If my husband reminds me to feed the cats, I’d more than likely respond something like “feed the cats, got it babe!”

If my husband is telling me a story or something more active and involved, I’m all ears. I ask questions and still “repeat respond” so we’re both actively involved in the conversation and he’s not just talking to a wall.

I say ‘that makes sense’ a lot. Or ‘that must have been frustrating’ ‘that must have been nice’ ‘I’m sorry that happened, I’m here for you, I support you’ ‘how are you feeling about it now’. I try to show that I’m engaged in the conversation and he can share as much or as little as he wants.

Full text: What do you say besides I hear you that means the same thing? My husband says “I hear ya” to me in a somewhat dismissive way, so I think that’s what that means to him. Sometimes I will say “Wow, interesting” but he may be tired of hearing that lol
