Your job is to vet him. This means watching where he directs the conversation, and stop following if he's leading you where you don't want to go.

There's no point in directing any dating-related conversations, unless you want to fool yourself that the wrong man is right for you.

If you want to get serious, stop texting and start talking in person.

You'll also have to be receptive to sexual advances if you want to keep him. Doesn't mean you have to have sex before marriage. But if you let sexual advances slip into thin air, you send him the signal of being sexually closed off. He'll see you as someone who will tolerate once a month duty sex. No man wants that.

By default, he won't take you seriously due to your age difference. You'll have to work extra hard to really stand out if you're to have a chance.

Be honest? Tell him that you are quite attracted to him, and the flirtation is terribly exciting, but as a virgin you only intend to have sex within a committed relationship. If he can tell you are flustered, that's okay, it's a compliment to his attractiveness. It's ok to be vulnerable to him and see what his next move is. It will say a great deal about his character and worthiness.

Texting is bad if you want to vet someone.

He might even be a beta who uses texting to hide his insecurities by being "sexual", you never know.

I'm with those who say to stop texting and start seeing each other in person. I'd also be pretty careful about what you text in terms of how loaded it is sexually. For starters, it never goes away. What we send doesn't magically get deleted, and you have to seriously trust that the guy won't misuse anything. This requires serious vetting, and my personal litmus test for sending undeletables is marriage. Others may have a lower threshold and that's cool... just be sure to check in with your personal comfort level, in addition to what it may be 20 years from now (ie, will your accomplished 40-something self be okay with that material existing somewhere?).

Also, the guy will expect that whatever sexual level you go to should either be maintained or escalated. If you suddenly cut back on your affections (either physical or over texts) he's going to brand you a major tease and someone who plays games. That is a fair assumption on his end, too.
