I stay at home now but I did this for years:

Make the bed. Manage the laundry. Know what is for dinner.

This three things will get you quite far.

Beyond that, it’s floors and toilets. Hit those on the weekends.

Plan out meals, get really good at being effiecient in the kitchen, have a list of meals that are easy and quick to make on days you're tired, try to build a side hustle to bring in income when you're no longer working(blogging, investing), and work on scheduling and learning about which tasks take the most energy effort and which doesnt that way you leave the most energy ones for weekend and less energy for weekday

I think the term homemaking can sound kind of daunting or ambitious! It may help to think about it as basic tasks you need to do to keep your home reasonably clean and orderly while still making time for fun and relaxation.

I work and we have young kids. Some stuff I try to do:

-Make very simple meals on weekdays with minimal prep or hands-on work. Baked boneless, skinless chicken thighs and steamed rice, that kind of thing. I find this more efficient than elaborate meal planning/prep on weekends.

-Pick a few areas of the house where cleanliness really matters to you, worry less about the others. I'd never go to bed if the kitchen is messy or dishes are in the sink. But I can live for a while without dusting, and so can my husband.

-On weekends, one day is typically for fun stuff or going out. The other day is for staying closer to home and catching up on things around the house/yard.

-Quick spot cleaning. Like, if I'm in the bathroom helping the kids brush teeth, I'll take a few mins to wipe down the sink or the floor.

I am a huge fan of meal prepping! On Sunday I cook lunches for the week and on Monday I cook dinner for the week. Occasionally I will cook a side, like a veggie, everyday, if it doesn't keep well (asparagus is one). That way during the week I don't have to worry about food.

Weekends are in case anything is left over, so there is no food waste, and usually cooking every meal separately.

Another thing is sectioning. Not everything needs to be done in one night. Tuesday is cleaning front rooms, Wednesday is laundry, Thursday is date night so no cleaning, Friday is cleaning office.

Having a flexible schedule for the things you want done is important.

My husband loves a clean kitchen. If the kitchen is clean, he is happy. So that is prioritized. Figure out what matters to you and your husband and go from there!

To minimize time spent on grocery runs, order dry goods online in bulk. Or try a Costco style membership.

Declutter as much as you can and avoid buying/filling spaces with useless stuff.

Consider hiring a maid service to help you with a deep clean once in a while.

I've been watching "the minimalism mom" on youtube! She talks a lot about how minimalism makes it so much easier for her to clean her house as a working mom. She has 4 kids and created a really great system for her to easily keep up with housework. I would suggest watching her video on how she does her laundry although honestly, all of her videos are very informative and concise.

Basically: the less stuff you have, the less mess it can make. For example, the less clothes you have, the less they pile up in the laundry bins. This also means you do laundry more often... But doing one load every few days isn't as bad as taking an entire day to do 1-2 weeks worth of laundry. Folding one load really only takes 5 minutes. The same applies for dishes as well as other messes!

Buy a slow cooker! It will allow you to make large portions of healthy and nutricious (the nutrients in food don't break apart as much when they are cooked in a low temperature) meals within minutes. All you need to do, is cut up the ingredients and put them into the slow cooker. This is also amazing for meal prepping (which was recommended by other women here) :)
