I'm sure there are studies about it, but I have met two asexual people over the years. Both were often mistaken for lesbians because of the outward appearance, and I talked with one at length during an overnight shift. According to her, she never had any desires for sexual contact with either sex. Puberty was strange because she wondered what the fuss was all about. She was fine being asexual because she still led an interesting life and thought everyone else was wasting way too much time and money chasing sex.

She was an interesting person, good to work with too.

I think the majority of the people in the thread are not strictly asexual, but it does happen. I'm not sure if there is really a way to tell for sure, especially using second hand subjective information on an Internet forum.

[–]Clauderoughly 40 points41 points42 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I am married to an "asexual" woman and yes it is a real condition.

Basically think of it this way;

  • Some people are sexually attracted to the opposite gender
  • Some people are sexually attracted to the same gender
  • Some people are sexually attracted to both genders
  • Asexual people are sexually attracted to neither gender.

She lurks here if you want to ask her about it, but I did an AMA not long ago about it.

its over in /r/nsfwiama

My wife is asexual, has always been asexual and I am the only man she has had any sort of relationship with.

(People asking me "are you sure she isn't lying etc can please NOT post that question, Kthxbye )

I have known her since she was 19, and she has always been this way. Asexual people have no sex drive, and never have. They don't suddenly become asexual when they are with someone, that's called loss of attraction.

As far as sex goes, I have a wife, but I also have a few plates and fwbs that I mess around with to keep myself happy. This is all done with my wife's blessing and encouragement.

No, she doesn't have same arrangement because... asexual (yes I am sure she isn't fucking around, don't ask)

So yes, Asexuality does exist, but its probably very over diagnosed, and more often than not used as a shield for people who are in the closet, or no longer attracted to their partner.

[–]masturbateawy4 points 12 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

I really think your response is quite insightful. Did you know from the beginning that your wife was asexual? Did you always have an open relationship arrangement? Do you ever have sex with your wife at all, or is that something that is provided exclusively outside of your relationship?

[–]Clauderoughly 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Did you know from the beginning that your wife was asexual?

I suspected, but we were in different countries for the good part of 2 years, after having lived together as room mates for 7.

Me moving crystallized the way she felt about me.

We had another medical issue which clouded the asexual thing, which was that she developed Rheumatoid Arthritis, and a bad case at that so she was barely able to get out of bed some days, let alone feel sexy.

Once we got all that sorted out, She still lacked a sexual drive so we engaged a wonderful sex positive therapist, who helped us work it all out. She was kind of a neutral party, who could help us.

So yeah, we came to grips with the enormity of what we were dealing with and that we'd never have a "normal" relationship, and after a lot of discussion and soul searching we decided we were ok with that, and that a semi open relationship would work for us.

Did you always have an open relationship arrangement?

We have had, for the last couple of years and it's been working great.

Do you ever have sex with your wife at all, or is that something that is provided exclusively outside of your relationship?

Sometimes, and she really makes the effort because she knows I enjoy it, but for her it's overwhelmingly "meh"

We have regular showers together, and a lot of affection in our relationship, so it's not like I am married to a cold fish.

There is a lot of push and pull, but we are both very happy.

There is always the option of seeing and escort if I am super horny, and I have a couple of regulars I see, should all my FWB's be unavailable.

[–]ThisisMalta 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for the response! Very informative, and I agree with your last paragraph a lot. Cheers, good luck with your s.o.

[–]_DiscoNinja_ 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Do you have children with your wife? If so, I think you might have the perfect red pill marriage.

[–]Clauderoughly 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No kids and no plans to. she is happy with pets

[–]Endevour 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

/r/nsfwiama

Holy fucking shit. Where to begin?

[–]2 Senior Endorsed Contributorvengefully_yours 22 points23 points24 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

My first wife wanted control of the relationship. I would not allow her to have it, so she withheld sex and tried to manipulate me with it. She was physically abusive to the kids and I, which makes me think what she really wanted was a BDSM type relationship. She tried damn hard to get me to hit her, but I didn't trust her near enough to play like that with her.

She still bitches that I do whatever I want, no matter what she said. Her new guy is a spineless omega that she controls easily. She keeps him around for income, because her gravy train from my child support is ending next year. She is a perfect example of a honey badger.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

congrats on child support ending next year

[–]2 Senior Endorsed Contributorvengefully_yours 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

About the time probation ends for the second divorce and the set up they stuck on me. Life will be good someday.

[–]TomHicks[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Quick question, did you lack the resources to leave the country?

[–]2 Senior Endorsed Contributorvengefully_yours 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In a way, yeah. I am a disabled vet, and the gov can shut me off leaving me living under a bridge.

[–]hawk8979 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She was physically abusive to the kids and I

Did this happen more than once? I am honestly confused by guys that are the victims of physical abuse in relationships. I can't imagine being able to put up with it especially if it were happening to my kids.

I don't mean to be insulting I'm just a little confused.

[–]2 Senior Endorsed Contributorvengefully_yours 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, what can a 240lb power lifting military guy do to stop a 140 lb bitch intent on starting fights then escalate them to physical violence? A man doing the same thing would end up in intensive care, where the woman knows he can't hit her or he will go to jail, get a DV convict.ion, lose everything, and never see his kids again.

She is big polar and got violent near daily, and the second wife taught me that the big military guy will get fucked over EVERY time if she claims abuse or him being 'dangerous' to her, even if he isn't.

You see, women don't need proof, they only need to claim it and everyone runs to protect her.

[–]ozymodeus 25 points26 points27 points 12 years ago* (10 children) | Copy Link

Approximately 1% of people are asexual.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asexuality

I have met one man that I am aware of who had absolutely no sex drive, he also had a series of other problems like obesity and bi-polar disorder and possibly a pituitary problem because he was like 6' 6".

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points23 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Might not be the case with this particular guy, but a lot of medications for mental illness will completely kill a person's sex drive.

[–]imhighnotdumb 12 points13 points14 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's because a lot of them raise the levels of serotonin in the brain which is a sex drive suppressant. Here's a very good article on serotonin and love/sex-drive. http://www.medscape.org/viewarticle/482059

I've been taking 5-htp for a lift and can definitely feel it curbing my sex-drive but in my case I don't mind as I was getting obsessed with sex. Also I overall think supplements like 5htp are good for RP because 'Serotonin-enhancing antidepressants also suppress obsessive thinking, which is a very central component of romantic love.', e.g. best cure for onenitis and great tool to keep your frame and spin plates like a pro.

[–]gopher88 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Excellent point, I've got off my anti-depressants about a year ago and my sex drive still hasn't fully recovered. It's actually something I'm about to see a doc about.

[–]elevul -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Though it's generally quite easy to solve (=TRT).

I miss House. I want to be him when I grow up. Hell, I got the raging opiate addiction down, now I just need to be a doctor!

[–]ThisisMalta 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I would, in that case, guess the lack of labido would be to neuro and hormonal imbalances, not a sexual orientation.

[–]Lilcheeks 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yea any time I see something about a guy being asexual I always wonder how regular shots of T would do for them.

You're more than welcome to PM my wife and I if you wanna talk about it.

[–]ThisisMalta 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Interesting. Seems we've heard a lot of different perspectives in this thread from Asexual individuals, and those with SO's whom were asexual.

TIL some stuff

[–]nawmsane 27 points28 points29 points 12 years ago* (9 children) | Copy Link

Lesbian relationships are well known for something called "bed death" which sounds like the exact same thing. After they're together for a while the spark just goes away and the sex stops.

edit: to add: lesbians aren't asexual and neither are these women you're talking about. They're probably just lacking a stimulus they need in order to be sexual. That's what I'm alluding to here. Lesbians almost invariably lack a masculine partner, and I'm thinking these "asexual" women do too, even if they're married to people with testicles between their legs.

[+]anal_cyst -15 points-14 points-13 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

meanwhile there are plenty of lesbians that will change sides if they meet the right guy.

sauce: a guy that a lesbian changed sides for.

[–]TRP VanguardCyralea 15 points16 points17 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

That would be a bi chick. Actual lesbians have no interest in fucking dudes. Even for the "right" guy.

[–]LasherDeviance 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Every gay I've ever known has told me that there is someone of the opposite sex that they will get hot for. They are just few and far between.

[–]TRP VanguardCyralea 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Is there a man that you'd go gay for?

[–]LasherDeviance 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can't say that there is. But what about straight dudes doing long prison bids? I'm sure a lot of those guys said the same thing, but 20 years of no pussy made them change their minds. A couple of days ago I just posted about a guy who's GF asked him to blow another guy to get her off. And I was and still am vehemently against it. All I'm stating is what I have been told by gays I know is all.

[–]SammyD1st 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The ol' "no true lesbian"?

[–]anal_cyst 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

go dig through /r/actuallesbians. there have been threads about losing 'lesbian' girlfriends to men.

[–]TRP VanguardCyralea 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

A lot of girls are confused about their sexuality as they go through adolescence and early adulthood. They finally accept that they're gay, but then further develop their self-understanding. I've know a few bi girls that went this route (being one of the few liberals in this sub has its advantages, heh)

[–]anal_cyst -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

and by the same token there are girl's that aren't into guys and have always thought they were attracted to women until they meet the one guy that turns their crank.

[–]LouisWinthorpIII 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Aren't like a quarter of women on anti-depressants here in the US? There's the main problem.

[–]brokor2110 points 12 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

I thought I was asexual, I was just depressed. Sex life is great now.

It's not all a conspiracy from women to control their men dude... you sound like those tinfoil hat ufo lovers.

[–]ThisisMalta 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I wasn't treating it as a conspiracy. I was saying that a lot of the men in that thread claiming their women were "asexual", conincidently or not, displayed textbook BP and beta tendencies and their description of their women was manipulative and controlling. It's something worth noticing and learning from.

I didn't say all "asexual" people were like that, nor am I downplaying how depression and psychological problems affect labido and sex drive.

There's plenty of more important things to don a tin foil hat over ;)

[–]_DiscoNinja_ 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I watched a documentary about asexual people. link to trailer

I tried to be objective but my gut reaction to nearly every person profiled was that the men were either inactive homosexuals or mildly autistic and the women were mildly autistic or un-fuckable beasts.

[–]Verlier 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Downvote me as you like, but what is BP?, yes!, I'm that dumb.

[–]kukul 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, it's bullshiit.

There may be some healthy, balanced individuals who really don't care much about sex, but that's still no reason to deny it to your SO.

[–]Clauderoughly 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not bullshit but there are ways around it.

I have an asexual wife, but I also have a few FWB's (with her blessing)

[–]sniperhiding 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What were the women's complaints about their sig others?

[–]Hardparty 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was in that same thread, it was brutal to read man.

[–]MockingDead 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have yet to see it** not** caused by the following:

1) Lack of attraction - they are asexual because they aren't attracted to you 2) Mental Illness/Trauma.

Many asexual women are just heteros afraid of actual sex. They love yaoi like it's going out of style. It's caused by a desire for sex and being brainwashed by feminism into hating the D.

Could be natural? Sure, but not in the levels that I have seen. That is statistically impossible.

Let the downvotes commence

[–]BIG_Daddy_Government 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

asexuality is out there yes. just like most of the people claim they are streetsmart not booksmart. most of the people who claim they are asexual are not asexual.

Look at it this way. Either the claimer doesn't know his own fetishes or hasn't met anyone to meet his inner desires.

Now for WIVES who claim that, its because they are absolutely disattracted with their SOs, and to not hurt their feelings or have the S.O complain about it. they claim asexuality.

When it comes to lesbians, few women are truly lesbians because they get off when another expert masturbater girl does tricks on her clit. Majority hasn't had dem alpha fucks yet.

[–]Mishapen_Turnip 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Asexuality is a sexual orientation where the individual doesn't have a sexual or physical desire to have sex with others. Some asexuals call themselves 'gray-a's' because while they do identify as asexual, they may have experienced some sexual attraction to someone.

Sexual identity is seperate from gender identity. Asexuals exist in individuals of any and all genders, including male.

It isn't a 'condition', calling it that characterizes it as a mental illness. Asexuals aren't turned asexual by traumatic events any more than people of other sexualities are changed.

[–]ThisisMalta 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

How is not having an urge to reproduce, a very natural, important, and primal instinct not a condition? How is it a healthy orientation?

[–]Clauderoughly 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not healthy but at the same time it isn't harmful to the person either.

They just lack the neurological wiring for that sort of drive.

My wife is asexual and perfectly happy and healthy. We both don't want kids, but we are more than happy to have pets.

If we did want kids, we'd adopt.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

dusn't interfere with everyday life?

[–]ThisisMalta -3 points-2 points-1 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Low Labido and hormonal imbalances sure as hell do!

[–]Clauderoughly 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

someone with low libido is not asexual.

Someone with NO libido is asexual

[–]ThisisMalta -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

So Low labido is a condition, but NO labido is not a condition, It's a healtht sexual identity? This makes perfect sense...

[–]Clauderoughly 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Well they are both conditions, but in one case it is treatable in the other case it is not.

If there was a magical medication my wife could take to give her a sex drive, she'd be all over that like a fat kid on cake.

Problem is, you can't stimulate what isn't and has never been there.

It'd be like giving a man tablets to treat a vaginal thrush outbreak. It would have zero impact, because a man never had a vagina.

[–]LasherDeviance 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

My question is: In the rare times that you do copulate with each other, does she orgasm? And is orgasm enjoyable for her? I understand that this is a somewhat personal query, though what I want to know is if the mechanisms still work the same even though there isn't any actual desire?

[–]Clauderoughly 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My question is: In the rare times that you do copulate with each other, does she orgasm?

She has never orgasamed, ever. Via her own stimulation or when we are together.

Women are funny critters, in that a lot of their sexual arousal / orgasm reflexes depend on their mental state.

She has fun during sex, but we have to use a lot of lube, and she does kind of enjoy it.. but I guess it's like when you are jacking off when you aren't even remotely in the mood... It's just kind of meh...

[–]ThisisMalta -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

hmm that makes more sense I suppose. Well said

[–]Mishapen_Turnip 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well, not every couple reproduces so by your logic they wouldn't be in a healthy relationship. Not everyone has sex to reproduce and asexuals can still have children. Arguing that asexuality isn't healthy because they don't want to reproduce implies that people who don't want children are somehow unhealthy which is untrue.

[–]ThisisMalta -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, I didn't say having sex for reproduction only was needed for a healthy relationship or healthy living.

[–]masterrod 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So I was browsing a recent front page thread basically asking redditors, who got married early, what they found out about their s.o too late after getting married.

You really have to explore each relationships. If you assume every relationship tends to balance, then sex is just a tool. The question is why is she withholding sex? In longer relationships, it can be come the only way she can balance, or feel safe in the relationship that the guy isn't just ruling her. Sometimes, withholding sex could have nothing to do with SO, but really it's the lady.

Holy crap, the thread is full of: Women complaining about their BP/Beta s.o's (I didn't see one complaining about an abusive husband), and BP/beta men complaining and making excuses for their cheating wives.

You would be surprised how many guys disrespect their women's opinions, and consequently dry up their pussies. Sometimes no sex is a consequence of their SOs not flailing in failure in the real world, so why should they give the guy sex when he doesn't really deserve it, and the relationship is not going anywhere. Funny thing is usually if you have good woman she will call you out on being a beta, unless she likes that sort of thing...

For that matter, I don't know too many relationships that have strong direction, and have cheating spouses.

(I didn't see one complaining about an abusive husband)

Abusive husbands are difficult, cause the feeling of abuse can be so visceral that women confuse that with love. Also, there's a lot shame for women in abusive relationships, so women will usually be silent. It's kind of sad thing. That maybe why you don't see many comments.

Is this a truly studied condition? I have yet to hear of any men with it. Sounds more like women who are unattracted to their s.o, and make excuses for withholding sex and trying to control the relationship--which they are inevitably dissatisfied with. Or perhaps I am wrong and it is a legitimate condition developed from biological or traumatic events...thoughts?

First of all there are people who truly are asexual, or they have some other kink for some reason or another. Putting those people aside, Women talking about attraction is a bit meaningless, cause it could change in a second, or a heartbeat. Usually, they are just craving for the moment when he might do something. ANYTHING. But he might be too pussy to do so.

The moral is if a man chooses to be an alpha, then he should evaluate the relationship and make sure it's going somewhere, and the two people are serving each other. If there's a problem he should attempt to solve it proactively. Otherwise he should leave her, and make both of their lives better.

Probably married to short guys, dunno why you'd bother getting married if you are. There is zero biological attraction there is very little you can do to keep anyone faithful fuck around behind your back no matter what.

I'd bet the large majority of actual successful red pullers are just tall, they are at your command if you just give it a little go, nothing special

You are living in fantasyland if you think the average female is anywhere near as horny as the average male. It's simply not biologically possible and you're a retard for ignoring the reams of anecdotal, scientific, and cultural evidence.

lol Yes because this subreddit isn't full of cheating women as well. Obviously you haven't met a women in the age group of 18-35 if you don't think women are as horny as men. "anywhere near" is just straight up wrong..Sounds like you need to meet more female human beings.

Yes of course you are right. I've never met a woman in the 18-35 age group in my entire life.

If you think they are not "anywhere as close to" as horny men, then I'd guess you need TRP even more than you think...

One of the top comments is about a woman with an abusive husband. What are you trying to say, that women are okay with abusive husbands? Don't be a fuck head

No, I was saying at the time I hadn't seen even one post in the thread discussing an abusive husband9which you think would be a surprise thing that was worth complaining about)-a lot of them were surprisingly complaining about BP/beta traits in male so's. but ya know, if you wanna be offended thats cool too.
