You shouldn't be depressed, you should be elated. I don't agree with everything I read on this sub, and I don't particularly care for f***ing many women or partying or anything, but this sub does preach many truths about the nature of being a male in this world. It's a refreshing amount of sober thought and cold analysis. It will make you feel better eventually, it will allow you to make sense of every behavior you see out there.
Start lifting iron, work on yourself, become a better human being. Never be a doormat for anyone, least of all a woman. Like Future said, chase a check, not a bitch.
[–]2 Senior Endorsed Contributorvengefully_yours 21 points22 points23 points 9 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link
Fuck chasing a check. Strive for independence, passive income, and zero debt. Trading hours for dollars is not much of a life. What good is it if you run on a treadmill until you're 65 or 70? Enjoy your life when your body is fucked, everything hurts, and your life is nearly over?
Money only lets you do shit, more lets you do it faster. Sure go try to be wealthy, but not for the money, do it for the freedom in your life to no longer trade hours for dollars.
[–]RPthrowaway_00735 points 9 years ago [recovered] (10 children) | Copy Link
You realize to obtain passive income you need to first work your ass off, right?
[–]Eclipsedv1 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
True story. Unless you inherit money you have no choice.

I worked my ass off in the 1990's and went through the dot.coms and the housing bubble. Effectively dropped out in 2001.
Haven't worked ever since. (though I'll admit the $$$ is running low)
But I do do have an inheritance coming fairly soon. (83 year old mother has $$$)
Freedom is better than wage slavery.
[–]Blink_King -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Lol, Neo...why must you always "trigger" the slaves by waving your freedom in their faces?
I'm starting to think you do it on purpose.
[–]NeoreactionSafe -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sorry... didn't mean to upset the slaves.
Not trying to cause any trouble.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Work like a slave in your 20s so you can live like a king in your 30s.
[–]samenrofringslikeLBJ 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Honestly, as a man in his late 20's, this is the fucking key to success. I fucked around a lot early in life, but the guys I see bangin chicks left and right, driving nice cars are all guys in their 30's and 40's who tucked their shit in and gave 10 years to the grind. Don't expect bliss though, but at a base level every man needs good pussy and some material wealth. It is definetly better to cry in a Porsche than a Hyundai.
[–]smilemore_481 points 9 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
If banging lot's of chicks and driving expensive car's are one's priority's than it's sound advice but those experiences are very short and the happiness that comes from them does not last very long.
In short, it's not very satisfying and there's a lot of danger and pain that comes from driving expensive car's and banging lot's of women.
The key to living a happy life is learning to be happy with what you got, setting low expectations so you can hit those goals, and learning to live in the moment.
Some of the happiest people on this planet are dirt broke.
[–]_TheRP 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Regardless of what you're doing you should be working your ass off at it. That should be your default setting.
Then it's simply goal prioritization.

I agree, but we seem to be a minority opinion, not only on TRP, but society in general. It's all about WORK and not about LIVING for too many people.
And this is for /u/stoicsoul87 who replied to you also. I've been self-employed for 20 years, haven't had a "real" job in 30. Find something that people need done, and do it for them. I know it's possible because in my mid-sized city I have more than 10 good friends who do this.
The money is good, but the freedom is better.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It's easier to go through the cookie-cutter motions than take a risk.
Being self-employed, etc. is a lonely life. At the end of the day the amount of bread you bring home is only on you. There's no safety net, there's no boss to take the heat for your fuckups, it's all you.
[–]5whatsthisgarg 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Being self-employed, etc. is a lonely life.
I work alone, and that's how I like it, but most of my buddies have crews of like-minded dudes; I've visited them on the job, and they are having a good time.
[–]stoicsoul871 points 9 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
I understand the freedom aspect of being self employed and that it's better to work for yourself than for your boss but it's not a one size fits all solution.
My argument is that there are cases where a 9 to 5 job can be more rewarding than running your own business. I am an engineer and the way the science/engineering economy is setup is the big players do all the heavy lifting and the really cool stuff. Small businesses are reduced to being consultants, data analysts, parts suppliers (dying industry due to outsourcing) and other support roles. I won't be developing plasma based nuclear reactors in my garage.
Hypothetically, would I rather have my own design and consulting firm or be an integral part of designing the next Boeing aircraft? I'd choose the latter in a heartbeat because as an engineer, I want to be doing the latest and greatest in engineering and it is more rewarding than making money.
[–]5whatsthisgarg 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Hypothetically, would I rather have my own design and consulting firm or be an integral part of designing the next Boeing aircraft?
Interesting that you use that example: my father was the head of a team that worked on a major system of the 747. Then he got laid off, and spent the next 25 years moving downward. I wish I could ask him how he would have done things differently, but he's long gone.
There are no guarantees in anything; good luck to you.
[–]stoicsoul874 points 9 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link
While I can agree with everything you said on principle, is it feasible in real life? Hard-work cannot be a substitute for soft skills, racial factors, upbringing, inheritance and plain old luck. We don't live in a meritocracy despite the narrative.
I hear a lot about going the entrepreneur route and being your own boss. But how many small businesses can the market support? There will always be careers such as scientists and engineers who will have infrastructure needs available only to large corporations operating on the hours for dollars model.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
But how many small businesses can the market support?
The amount you make them believe it can support.
People don't know what they want until you show them.
Ad nauseum.
[–]imn0tg00d 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The market isn't a "them". It's more of a self correcting force.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The market contains a pathological "them" that guides the market.
The market's been manipulated to hell and back, it's not self-correcting in the slightest.

I think it's natural to feel depressed at first, but I think the moment you grab your life by its balls and squeeze that depression is going to go away.
In my experience, it was reached by anger. Use that. It helps with monk mode. It helps you get in the right IDGAF mindset. It helps you realize that reaching your own potential has fuck all to do with any woman.
It's a mountain, and we climb it every day. But at least now we climb it together.
[–]Frostfighter 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
There's a variety of words and definitions i see on TRP often that I don't know,
What is monk mode? And if you don't mind, "HB9" and I know what "plate" essentially means, but I'd like to know the actual definition.
If there is an article in the sidebar, you can point me to that too, I've read most of it but I haven't seen any definitions
[–]Rowger00 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
You can find the "Glossary of Terms and Acronyms (2015)" under the "The Rules & Glossary" section of the sidebar. I copied this from there.
Monk Mode - Mitigating distractions and focusing on introspection, reflection and self-improvement for a given period of time. Working on the body and mind.
HB - Hot Babe (often followed by a number as an indication of ranking on a 1-10 scale).
Plate - Woman with whom you are in a non-exclusive sexual relationship with. Spinning plates is the act of having multiple plates simultaneously.

Stop engaging in learned helplessnes. Get mad, go take it out on the iron, and then get to work on learning game and self respect.
Monk mode as you say it will not work. Taking your toys and going home isn't a strategy, it's a coping mechanism.
Just get to work, stay engaged, and practice, fuckup, learn, and repeat.
Make the weekly improvement thread your goto, each week. every week. It's still new, but as more guys get in there, more guys who can offer help and guidance will be there giving their help as well.
As you will, when someone hits on your area of expertise.
Forget about your feelings, you need to get to work
[–]kupakuma 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I really disagree with Monk mode not working... I've been isolating myself for 6 month, and in that duration I've gained about 15 pounds of muscle going to the gym consistently, I've passed my first actuary credentials exams out of 9 which is a career path that I'm gunning for. (They make 6 figures.) Have been consistently improving on my day job at the office.
It works if you have a set goal, and a set plan, and a proper deadline. My monk mode is going to be about 3 years, because that's the amount of time it will take for me to pass 3 exams, and finish my undergrad classes that I failed to finish when I was chasing girls. My focus was geared to making girls like me, and I forwent everything in terms of trying to improve myself.
Now it's not for everyone, but I can say with confidence that I have progressed in the last 6 months, than I ever have in the last 3 years. I'm a true believer in this method as long as ppl commit to it with an end goal in mind.

Depression is the brains way to say this thing in the conscious mind needs to be transcribed to subconscious. The depression gets the other people away from you so you can do it.
It's evolutionary. Just don't kill yourself while you're on a Mr Meeseeks box binge. Spend a week alone and figure it all out.

Why would you be depressed? You can actually change the way you are. Before TRP you thought you were just going to be that way forever, always being a passive scared little permission boy around women. That is a depressing thought.
But having a shot at something better? At 22 when you haven't fucked your life up yet?
Forgive yourself for being a BP. But if you do engage in behaviors that you now know are wrong... do not cut yourself slack on that. To do that is to waste the gift of enlightenment. If you've acquired wisdom, it will just torture you all day in your brain mulling about with no outlet to apply itself towards. You have to apply what you've learned here, or yeah, you will get depressed.
Depression is essentially the state of overthinking. Don't over think this, you don't need to know much to succeed. There is something to be said for discovering TRP ideas on your own in the real world. You can always tell the posters who are just writing about stuff they learned on TRP. Take a little bit of wisdom from here and go, get off the internet, you should be too busy lifting, talking to women, developing attractive hobbies, and getting mentally used to the concept of treating women like hormonal teenagers. (That is really hard for betas to do even though they conceptually understand why they are supposed to).
You don't need to go monk, you need to engage with the world more. Monk mode ideas are great, but reading TRP and manosphere theory all day isn't going to get you out of this state.
[–]Toushyton 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes sir, found myself mentally masturbating with TRP posts wayyy too much when I discovered this sub, I didn't see any improvement until I stopped reading this sub's material. Too many men in here offering advice that doesn't actually help and in some cases can make you feel worse.

Awareness is the first step. Welcome to TRP. As many have said, read up the sidebar over and over again.
From some of the words in your post, I'll tell you, though:
Being a gentleman is something I recently found out I gotta work on.
"Girls just wanna have fun." So should you.
Even after taking the pill, you'll get a few L's in the way. Never regret making a mistake cause you learn from it. However, if you make that same mistake twice, stop and find out what you're doing wrong.
Don't ever hate women. Why are you going to hate what you are trying to be successful with? Girls are real fun to be with (and I don't mean it in a sexual way).
Going monk doesn't mean going hermit. Keep that in mind.
Make sure to yourself that your current oneitis is the last one you're ever going to get. Ever.
Enjoy.

'respected' them a lot and each and every time got stuck in the friend zone no matter how sweet, funny, or wonderful they say I am.
You have to choose with women: do you want to friend them or fuck them. They will direct you towards friends (with approval and lies about her own virtue), so she can have as many orbiters as possible.
The girls that knew I was all about them just used me for attention, and disrespected me because I behave in a way that isn't 'manly'. 110% bluepill.
No, they disrespect you because you are not being true to yourself. They are joining in with YOUR disrespect of yourself. Don't pretend it's because you're not being "manly / RP". You put yourself second, they followed your lead.
I do feel shitty right now. I have to turn away my oneitis the next time she contacts me, which will shock her. But feeling shitty is part of the progress. It's time to go monk for a while.
It's time for some deep level identity change.
You have invested in the BP world, believed its lies, and then got hurt. It's a system designed to exploit you for the benefit of everyone else.
And people BELIEVE in the system - as you did. Even women believe in it - so much so that she knows how much she has to lie to maintain her part in the system.
OP, You wanted sex with girls, you still do. Now you know how they operate and are on a path to getting what you want.
[–]tomas_pz2 points 9 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
You are exactly right. I put myself second, and they followed my lead. I was this weird dude just hoping to be granted access to the pussy when in reality I had every means of taking it. I just didn't believe it because of my low self-worth, and how I perceived wanting sex as 'wrong' or 'sexist' or whatever. I'd invest more and more into them, thinking if I had that 'special connection™' I'd be happy. And I didn't want to step on any toes because oh no, what if they didn't like me!? How deluded I was. It's time to invest in myself, cultivate new beliefs about myself, and kick ass. Thank you RP.

This is a covert contract. Women know that men engage in these covert contracts, and they know they can break the contract with impunity.
They even directly state this: "You just bought be drinks so that I would sleep with you". Notice implicitly in this: her accepting the drinks knowing the deal and then reneging on his expectation is completely fine, and that HE is the one responsible for HER breaking the implied contract.
I'd invest more and more into them, thinking if I had that 'special connection™' I'd be happy
This is a classic story as old as time.
The reality is: you were told by society to be a beta, you were a beta, you got treated like a beta.
Want proof? Tell everyone your story, ask what you should do. They'll all tell you to double down on your beta status. "Just be yourself" / "She wasn't the one" / "One day you'll meet that special someone" / "You just need to find your soulmate".
Noone will tell you the truth: up your SMV, up your game, get more options, care less about each individual girl and situation.

You are entitled to nothing in this world. You may receive things, money from inheritance, good looks etc. but you are not entitled to anything. If you want something you have to go for it. Nothing you want will happen if you sit around hoping for something to happen with your thumb up your ass. They cant read your mind. 1) approach them, talk like you would talk to anyone else. Gauge their interest 2) implicitly establish what kind of relationship you want. 3) explicitly esblish it when the time is right, 4) win/lose
Also you don't have to wait on a girl. If she's being slow dodgy, you can talk to another girl at the same time. In fact, talk to as many as you can at all times. Then make cuts as you see fit.

[–]Senior EndorsedMattyAnon 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean "they will manouvre and manipulate you away from sex and into being friends with her".
And when I say "friends", I mean "one sided friendship that benefits her more than you".

You'll be fine! Be thankful you found this place so young.
It's easy to become depressed when your worldview is shattered, but understand this - the worldview you now construct will be based on TRUTH and REALITY. Dedicate yourself to that every step, no matter how painful it is to look at.
My advice: be 100% selfish for a while, learn who you are and what makes you happy, discover what is holding you back and deal with it head on, exercise/eat well/sleep well, work on your relationship with yourself first, and invest in yourself every day.
The last part is crucial. The more you invest in yourself, the more importance you put in your own opinions and reality vs other people's -- it helps you overcome a lot of crap around you.

i'm almost 2 years in, and after the first 6 months, i've consistently have kept a harem of 5-10 plates. one of my current plates is this 23 year old fox (i'm mid 30s). she openly says she hates me, but is so attracted to me and doesn't know why. we fuck multiple times a week and she's into full-on sex slave BDSM. the other day she said... and i shit you not... when she's in a relationship, she can never fuck her boyfriends like the way we fuck.

tinder + bumble + OKC + daygame. first time you meet an online girl, meet her for 60 min or less for a drink or coffee. don't bother trying to close, but give heavy kino and do kiss her at the end. cut it off at 60 min. this forces her to re-invest, so you minimize your investment of time and money into shit that's not going to work out. this also gets you pipelining... you can easily set up 3 of these in a night (must live in a city or you just can't move around fast enough). once you have a large enough pipeline, swap the 3rd slot out for a girl who you've already seen. stop this one-night-stand bullshit... it's very poor ROI... most girls will start to comfort test / try to DTR after the 3rd or 4th hookup. the proper response is "i'm not looking to force anything. i want it to happen naturally and see where things go." some will get antsy around the 8th-10th hookup, just hold frame. some will walk, but it's no loss... you have a huge pipeline of women.
realistically though, once you have 5 plates, each additional is significantly harder to keep spinning. usually you have to see a plate once a week to keep her. you can occasionally go a week or two without, but usually you need real evidence of travel or something like that (because then they think you'll take them traveling next time). there's only 7 nights in a week, so once you pass 5, you're cutting into guys' nights and "i'm just fucking exhausted and i'm staying in tonight." plates 8 and 9 mean 1 girl every single night, plus saturday and sunday midday (because when a girl stays over, you should be fucking them again in the morning). this means shit like brunch or boating or wineries. 10 plates is epic hard-mode because there aren't any more slots left for actual fuck-time, and you just start prioritizing until some get dropped.
after you keep this up long enough, you're dripping with confidence and abundance mentality and DGAFness everywhere you go. i pull numbers in daygame now that i never would have been able to before.
just the other day, i was at a stoplight downtown, and this girl looks into the car at me and just stares at me while i'm staring at her. i gazed through her like i was peering into the depths of her soul. then i made a "come here" motion with my finger, rolled the window down, and got her number. i would never have dreamed of being able to do that before redpill.

Honesty, charm, and generally being a decent person actually are good qualities to have and they can help you get laid. They're basic qualities that are necessary for cultivating a social bond with others whether it's platonic friendship or romantic involvement. Guys don't get laid by insulting women, being overly aloof, or deceiving themselves into thinking they deserve better or something (I mean you might if she's a trash bag, but lots of guys do this shit to protect their ego). Even the so called "asshole chads" you hear about have some level of honesty and charm in their personalities. Chicks just call them assholes cause they live the lifestyle of a player and get jealous about it.
Your problem is you're just a timid guy. It's okay. It's natural and really one of the stepping stones one crosses in their progress toward becoming a well adjusted guy. Just have faith in your ability to comprehend, learn, and grow from situations and you'll surpass it someday.
Think of it this way.. You're in 3rd grade and it's math class. What are you doing in 3rd grade math? Multiplication, division, fractions, decimals etc.. You don't do algebra or calculus in 3rd grade math because you don't have the mental tools to solve those problems yet. What you're essentially doing right now is beating yourself up for not being able to do algebra and calculus when you're in 3rd grade math class. One step at a time.
Don't beat yourself up. Focus on small daily achievements so you can progress toward becoming a better quality man. Spend an hour or two a day at the gym/exercising. An hour or two reading a book or studying a subject that interests you. Make some time to socialize with your peers and go out to chase some skirts. Check out some fashion blogs or walk around a trendy hip area and take notes on clothing and hairstyles.
After a while of lifting, better grooming, and dressing better.. Honestly chicks might start approaching you first. After about a month or two you'll notice a spike in female attention. This reward alone should be enough for you to invest in yourself.
Also remember, nothing worth anything comes easy. It always takes lots of practice, patience, and dedication.

A stated by others. Fuck feeling sad and wallowing in it.
I understand this all feels like a shit show. You have lied to yourself ,everyone else had lied to you and they l all applauded your lies. And this should get you MAD not sad. This should get you to find something to unleash that anger on. Whether that is ranting, lamenting or hitting the weights. Going monk now is just hiding, it's just your conditioned flight response that the world and you yourself taught you to be manageable and not break the status quo.
Point is if you want to change for the better you should not hide. Least of all from yourself. Experience all the emotions that come from learning the truth and use them as a pyre to burn your old self on. And create who you want to be, who makes you happy.
People will hate you for changing, you will stumble and fall along the road. But no one can stop you from becoming the best you but you. And as long as you get up dust yourself of and continue on after you fall you willget ever closer to that goal.
Good luck and enjoy the ride.

Shape up, take the L and find someone else. Have more self respect man, the confidence and success will follow.

To anyone who has the slightest doubt that they will end up happier after knowing the red pill, read this short article:
http://www.westernmastery.com/2017/06/01/ignorance-really-bliss/
In a nutshell, you need to accept reality for what it is in order to greater expand yourself and become the best man you can be. It can be a painful process at first, but the more you work to improve and the more you look forward, the sooner you'll see gains from what you're doing — and it really doesn't take long to see improvements. What you don't know will still hurt you, so had you never discovered TRP, you'd be much, much worse in the long run. At 22, be glad that you discovered the red pill while you are young.

The depression part is the bitterness of the pill, after a while you'll learn to like the taste. From some it's more bitter than usual. But don't worry, it will fade off over time. Monk mode for a while can help but try not to stay there too long like I did.
By making the realization that being nice to women gets you nowhere is already a good step. Don't go total asshole as they will still be pushed away. Being assertive, having set boundaries and wit of the tongue is the way to go at first.

Ok, dude. Take this with a grain of salt, but I'd give anything to have discovered these things at age 22. I'm in my late 30's, fresh off a divorce, see my kids half-time, and have PTSD from being married to a psycho for a decade (a psycho with whom I still have to coparent, mind you). My wife had an affair with a coworker and left me a sad, resentful wreck. I cried on the floor begging her to stay. I took my anger out in ways that I never once thought I was even capable of. I was a "really nice guy" after all. I discovered this sub, and while I don't agree with all of it, it's making a world of difference in my life. I can NOT tell you the feeling of satisfaction I felt when I hard nexted my ex-wife and she came to my door, begging me to take her back, when my 24 year old attractive plate came down the stairs (the ex is also late 30s), and I got to tell the ex to get the hell off my property before I called the cops. Finding my backbone, being a man, and never being anyone's doormat ever again has made a difference in my life that I can't even describe. So, yeah, you can feel depressed now, but let it fuel you. Take control of your life at this young age. Don't be the sad, blue pill weakling that I was a year ago. Be a man. Take charge.

Thanks. I will do my best. Also, good work, I am proud of you.

You should feel absolutely extatic. You just found the blueprint to turn your life around and take matters into your own hands. And at a young age too. You're lucky!!! Some guys live their whole life without this knowledge. And yet here it is completely at your fingertips...I'm excited in your place. Fucking study and apply this shit religiously!

Rule one: Women have no clue what they want.
Rule two: That's our job.
Takeaway/Lesson: Be yourself, be strong/confident in yourself, don't be an asshole, take charge.

22 y-o and red-pilled? Rejoice mate! That is fantastic. I wish I did at your age, I would give anything to go back.

I think many of us have experienced what you are going through when we first lifted the veil and will agree that it is perfectly normal.
Embrace the rage you feel. It shows you are not okay with the status quo and it will fuel the progress you need to make.
Keep this in mind, emotions are temporary, dont give them more attention than needed.
[–]VickVaseline 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You have absolutely nothing to be depressed about. You are 22. I didn't find TRP until I was 55.

The first step to being a better man, is to submit to the truth and then acting accordingly.

If you haven't listen to the Black Phillip Show (Patrice O Neal) although it sounds like you already have. Beyond that focus on yourself. Women serve as reflections of us, so any time you focus on them understand it leads back to you.

Come on bro.
Truth hurts but you know what I would give to have known this shit at your age?
Carpe fucking diem.

You just swallowed a nasty red pill mate. Now you're depressed, next thing you will be pissed off and you will absolutely hate every female being. We've all been there, done that. Red pill rage is pretty nasty and it never really goes away. But don't fret. This hate will be your most powerful weapon. It will allow you to become the person you could only dream of before. You will learn that you can't trust anybody, especially women. Work only for and by yourself. You are on your own. Good news is, heartbreak, betrayal and all those emotions won't break you ever again. You will become stronger and you will be better than everyone around you, you can now see things that few can, and you can use this to your advantage.

It gets worse.
You must go through the Anger Phase where you become emotionally aroused about the fact the Blue Pill mythology has literally fucked up your brain ever since you were born.
...but we all were, so you are with people who understand.

Lift, get some tatts, and some nice threads. Make yourself presentable, look good. Let go. Speak your mind, firmly with no apologies. Tell your oneitis that you'll hang out if she blows you. Laugh in her face. 0 love for these hoes.
