I don't tolerate this behavior with my female friends, and none of you men should tolerate it either. If I'm out to lunch with them they have to put their fucking phones away and not answer unless it's business-related.

I know the type. I might be somewhat addicted to reddit, but I have nothing to do with Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Foursquare, or any of that bullshit.

Just ask them one simple question:

"Why the fuck do you want to work for XYZ Social Media company for free?"

Because that is exactly what you are doing. When you post on social networks, you are the product. Facebook is making money off of your writing. Twitter is profiting from your tweets. Pinterest.. well I don't really know how Pinterest makes money. It's free content creation, you are an employee tricked into thinking that you're getting a real service.

You know why they do it? Because they are insecure. Rather than having to be creative and come up with dialog that is actually interesting, they get their validation online and escape from the stress of the real world. It's similar to that feeling you get at a party where you don't know anyone but everyone else already knows eachother, you feel kind of awkard so it's easier to just jump on the phone or get stone-cold drunk. Well these kind of people feel it all the fucking time because they reverse-weaned themselves onto the validation titty of their smartphone-connected social networks.

Don't tolerate this behaviour. My friends all have girlfriends who will do this when hanging out with them. They end up playing shitty games on their phone like crackheads with no attention span. What is the point of seeing other people if you're going to click bubbles on your phone to pop them? Dafuq?

On that note, I think I'm going to write stupid games for phones.

Not to be a jerk, but this is a problem on both sides. I've had plenty of guy friends who will be on their phone the whole time when we hang out. I can admit to blowing a lot of stuff off playing video games.

This is one behavior I'm currently training out of my g/f. She is glued to her phone so I make it very clear that phones go off the table throughout the date.
