When I was a sophomore in college I went to the gym every day. I was on a real hot streak with the ladies at that point. I didn't really see the results myself, but looking back I can see that others did. During the last couple years of college I got lazy because I felt like I couldn't gain any weight. I'm 5'9", I tried a bulk diet when I was lifting and still maxed out at 150 (160 with creatine). Also, I couldn't figure out how to get past plateaus.

I'm 23 now, and at 175 I find myself in the "overweight" category. I have been putting off the gym because I broke my big toe in a car accident (could hardly walk), but I just got it all fixed up so I'm ready to rock.

Most of you guys like to tell newbs here to "go lift". Can you hook it up with a good routine or resource from which I can find a good lifting routine (as someone that's been out of it a few years)? I know 5x5 is the generic response, but I personally feel that that routine is better suited to powerlifting and that it doesn't occupy the full hour I'd like to spend in the gym. I'm new, so there's a good chance that I'm completely wrong about that.

I felt like this was a question that many have asked, but I couldn't find anything by searching or in the sidebar.
