Learn to fight, do everything to avoid a fight....Thankfully it has been my experience that those who know how to fight, want to avoid a fight.

[–]zuk1 -4 points-3 points-2 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Why do everything to avoid a fight? Nothing wrong with the occasional fight under the right circumstances imo. Gets the adrenaline going.

[–]bluehorseinvincible 11 points12 points13 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Until you get your face smashed in by a guy with a pipe...or maybe get stabbed in the liver a few times...or have your head smashed on concrete...your teeth knocked out....or maybe you lay into someone and they fucking die....you spend the next ten years in a goddamn prison for manslaughter being someones punk bitch.

Fighting ain't like the movies and it ain't the goddamn UFC. You risk death every time you decide to engage in a street fight...and for what?

[–]blacwidonsfw 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. I have gotten into a lot of fights and many times I thought I could handle it and it spirals out of control where more guys show up or people pull out weapons and even one time a gun. The only time you should fight is if it is your safest option for diffusing the situation.

[–]Philhelm 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Consequences. There is far more to lose than to gain.

[–]snakehayter 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its good to lift and do martial arts to stay healthy, look fit, and feel confident. Its also good to be able to defend yourself if you're unfortunate enough to be in a situation where its necessary.

But, life isn't like prison, you don't have to get into fights to prove your worth as a man. Getting into a fight can be a good way to discover you're own self respect, but there are other ways to do that without the risk of getting killed or seriously injured(I.E sports, lifting, martial arts)

I don't agree

IMO, outside of the ring .... nobody wins a 'fight'

yeah, I've had far too many, none professional, and they were all fucked up and I wish they'd never happened, win lose or draw, but that's me, imma lover not a fighter (but I did do 10yrs of martial arts as a kid/teenager)

I've never (yet)really had the crap beaten out of me, but I've been to prison for beating the crap out of someone else

[–]smokingmonkey420 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely the truth. I spent 16 years of my life wrestling some of the best in the country. If it wasn't for wrestling, who knows what would have become of me? I probably would have never got laid and turned into some kind of addict or criminal since I don't have any other major talents.

Training teaches you a type of discipline that cannot be achieved merely by lifting. It's actually quite difficult to put into words, but I think it forms you into a much stronger man in a way that nothing else can match. It's the type of advice that should be repeated every bit as much as "lift."

"Once you have wrestled, everything in life is easy." - Dan Gable

I agree with this to a certain extent.

I acquired a black belt in taekwondo when i was 17 (called "poom") and did Muay Thai/Wrestling on and off. At first, i thought learning to fight was going to make me stronger physically but instead what it really did was make me stronger mentally (discipline, state of mind, confidence). You can learn alot about yourself when practicing to fight.

It's easy to say that people dont fight fair. Ya sure, there are people carrying knives, guns etc. But in general, It think it's important that men know how to take a hit even though they are peaceful individuals. Life is so sporadic and crazy that you can't predict what situations you will end up in. Knowledge and experience in how to physically defend yourself = instant confidence.

You completely missed the point.

[–]AntixD 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it's good to know, krav maga deals with self defense, and it encompasses close range weapon disarment, better than dying without trying, lose a hand than die

[–]abdada 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol top of the blue collar heap.

No.

[–]TekkomanKingz 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The fact that this needs to be even said is ridiculous. We have become a society of sissified nerds.

[–]-Lordless- 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In my own experience, the best fighting styles incorporate boxing elements into both its offensive and defensive techniques. I've always had issues with ritualistic martial arts forms, namely Tae Kwon Do.

If you're looking for the most practical of fighting forms, Krav Maga, Thai Boxing and rudimentary Boxing can teach you what you need you know.

[–]ForgeAndTemper 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can't remember the exact quote but Sun Tzu said basically that going to war is a failure. But then again think about how many times that guy probably went to war. I train martial arts because it increases my personal soverignty. I'd rather not throw a punch, but if I have to..

"Learn martial arts" is good advice, but not worthy of its own post by itself.

And that's all you're saying. You just padded it out a bit. I think you're capable of setting the bar a little higher than that, don't you?

Removing.

[–]throwmeaway3399 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So many stupid 'bro science' posts on here lately. Figthing with your fists does not make you an alpha. Sure you should be able to defend yourself but going around with a chip on your should looking to brawl shows that you lack any true frame.

[–]JusticeCakes 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Most of us are in /r/theredpill because we have a chip on our shoulders in one form or another. If you learn how to fight and are tested in a proper environment (gyms), then you're less likely to want to prove yourself elsewhere. The confidence that you get from your skills will make you less likely to react in petty situations.

There is something to be said about walking away from a confrontation without the lingering thought in your head that you're just a little bitch because you know you could of handled it.

[–]throwmeaway3399 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

I think you misunderstood what I meant by chip on your shoulder. Being mad at the world is not an alpha trait, accepting the world for what it is is alpha. Sure hating the world may be what brought you here but you are still on step 0 if you can't even get over that much.

[–]JusticeCakes 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're way too abstract for me. I'm more of a if don't like something then fix it.

[–]Narcomonkey -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I did a couple of years of krav maga. Having a never give up philosophy and familiarity with using your body as a weapon is reassuring when push comes to shove.
