Procrastination

People develop as quickly as they're allowed to. When there was a shortage of skilled labor, boys were allowed to develop into men much earlier. Now that there is labor surplus, extended adolescence is the rule of the day. Adolescents are easier to control than adults. They aren't independent in their thinking, let alone their lifestyle. That's why people are encouraged to be hedonists for as long as possible even thought hedonism is in essence, a form of drug addiction.

As for women "maturing" faster; within the last sixty years there has been a gigantic industrial effort to get them to mature into adult professionals to expand the labor pool, increase competition for jobs, reduce labor bargaining power, drive down wages, and improve the options for employers as to who to hire. Women from upper middle class and wealthy backgrounds are now competing with men from lower middle class, middle-class, and working class backgrounds for the same jobs, whereas these men used to just have to face their male counterparts, they now compete with females as well. You cannot compete with women the same way you can compete with men, and young women have a competitive advantage in a job market where many employers are middle-aged and older men from an earlier era when there were less women bosses. These older men are also competing for the women sexually. Add to this a school system that stultifies all attributes traditionally ascribed to the male role: creativity, aggressiveness, entrepreneurial activity, and you get a bunch of feminized men who can't easily compete with their older counterparts. They have to learn to be men on their own time after their youth has already passed them. Many will fail.

With all of these factors, it is no wonder that young men retreat into fantasy worlds and put off advancement. They've been utterly demoralized, discouraged, and ill-prepared for what is facing them. And of course, these distractions are prepared for them by their older male counterparts as alluring alternatives to reality. They were first introduced to them as toys, and now they have become full-blown addictions. And these alternative realities only serve to exacerbate the real-world problems the young men face.

Of course men procrastinate in doing the busy work bullshit that comprises most schoolwork and office administration.

Give men a matter with real stakes and tasks, and watch them complete the job, while the women bitch about whose seat is closer to the door.

I can only speak from personal experience but in my case going through school a decade ago, I majorly procrastinated simply because I found school to be boring and uninteresting. I spent as little time with school assignments as humanly possible and spent more time fiddling with technology. I struggled academically back then but today I'm happily employed in the technical industry, while a lot of my old friends that excelled at studies aren't doing so well today.

I think the problem is at least in my case is the system doesn't accommodate hands on learners and people that are motivated by challenges and competition. There's not much competition in school and the learning certainly isn't hands on. There's also a huge amount of useless studies and "side courses" that students are forced to take that don't matter and you forget them immediately after a year or so. Total waste of time.

It's a question of priorities. When you're 35 and you procrastinate doing something, it's because you're busy doing something else of actual greater importance, and the thing you're delaying isn't a priority to you. When you're 15 and you procrastinate doing something, it's because you're busy playing a video game or something else stupid.

When you're 15, you're not a man, so you make stupid choices, like a child. That can go on for many more years, depending on the man in question. Your average feminist will tell you that a man never grows up and constantly needs nagging and a strong woman to keep him in line, when it's the opposite. That nagging is designed to keep him from growing up and gaining value.

Take the stereotypical "midlife crisis" for example. A woman will tell you that when a 40 year old man starts rashly trying to change his life for the better, it's an act of immaturity. A rebellion against growing up. A man will tell you that the man's finally started to realize his years of mistakes and his low value, sometimes after it's too late. A desperate attempt to grow up.

Women are also pretty good at appearing one way and being another, moreso than men, so maybe your observations are correlated with the women you know looking like they do more work.
