I'm a co-founder of a successful tech startup. What the guy says in the article is pretty obvious to anyone who has spent any time in the industry (and can look at things without beta glasses), regardless of the NAWALT comments.

Its funny to read the logic of these people in the comments. It pretty much goes like this:

There are vastly more male programmers than females programmers, therefore there is "sexism" somewhere.

Then the next handful of people start arguing about where this sexism is. Is it the programmers themselves? No, its the corporate culture. Wait, No it isn't, its the media!. Hey wait a minute...

Its funny cause someone from each of those groups will chime in because they work in those areas and know for a fact there is no institutionalised sexism there (if anything its usually the opposite) and so pass the blame of "sexism" over to the next person in the line. Its like a bunch of kids chasing after an elusive boogeyman that no one can seem to objectively find. They're in a forest running in circles screaming because a squirrel ran up a tree and it set off a chain reaction of screaming and panic amongst them, cause they "heard a monster".

God help the man who dares to say "wait a minute...maybe there isn't a massive conspiracy of sexism in every aspect of programming. Maybe its something inherent in women and men at a biological level which makes them predisposed to particular fields of study/work". If anyone dare step out of the "Men and women are equal in all ways!" philosophy, they are likely to be hen-packed by the feminist vultures who are constantly flying in a circle overhead all internet discussion.

I'd love to see the numerous studies that have come to this conclusion. That is such an absurd statement.

In those rare instances where some measurable difference exists, the standard deviation within a gender is near-universally (and I'm only saying "near" to avoid an absolute statement) larger than the difference in averages between the two genders.

This is completely meaningless.

Immediate familes are genetically more similar than non-families. But the standard deviation within a family is near-universally larger than the difference in averages between one family and another.

After reading the above paragraph, if you manage to draw the conclusion that familes aren't genetically similar, you're hopeless.

If you say "I think there's something about programming that makes women not want to do it" then you are displaying a worldview that's very gender-essentialist. Gender essentialism and sexism walk hand-in-hand.

Oh great, another bullshit term to throw at people who dare poke the feminism dragon. My favorite of these is "heteronormative". It's heteronormative to assume most couples are male and female. Well I think it's feminormative to assume most women are more capable than most men.

The industry I work in is over 95% male and the only reason women are around at all is because they fill bullshit HR roles such as sexual assault coordinating liason.

With the exception of one archetype, the older motherly type, every woman at my work is a problem. I would bet that it's the same at every job, next time you're at work, look at where the root of the problems are coming from.

I'm actually glad there is less women who are into programming, to be honest they are lazy. I've worked with several, they will code, but don't like to solve bugs. So they tend to use "puppy dog eyes" to these beta guys, and will gladly fix emm. Me on the other hand, I tell emm I don't got time, I'm tryna change the world.

I had an old friend who worked as a hotel front desk dude when we were younger. His manager was a woman who was married to some corporate manager guy and he told them they he doesn't hire women because all they do is cause fucking problems. My ideal work place has about 2-3 women max. I dont even like working with attractive women because they are fucking batshit insane/drama whores. Im a fucking pervert, dont get me wrong..i think about licking womens asses and titties all day but when it comes to work i dont have time to fuck around, nor do i have the tolerance for stupidity and elementary school games
