The terrifying thing is how normalized it has become to enable female solipsism. Every kind of accomodation is made for women to behave irrationally and emotionally, at the same time requesting that nobody ever bring that up against them in other circumstances (such as when discussing women in leadership roles).

I can make a very easy parallel between this case and the one of Guy Turcotte, a french canadian doctor who killed his 2 children in a very similar fashion in Quebec a couple of years ago.

Just as this woman, he was a "model parent", he had a very respected job and everything was going fine in his life. But then one day he just snapped and poisoned his 2 young kids with bleach. There was a first trial, in which he was found not guilty, because of a mental illness, but then a second one and he which he was found guilty and got a 10-25 year sentance. I think there is going to be an appeal but this is not relevant.

What is relevant is that every fucking one in Quebec hated the guy. Everyone openly said that they would want to torture the man, that he should be castrated, that he should at least spend the rest of his life in a hole. But the woman of your story gets people to raise money for her defense!!!??? WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!?

He would get the book thrown at him in court. Get put up for a death sentence if he were in a more conservative state and life without parole elsewhere. Assuming other prisoners dont kill him that is.

can someone explain to me what biological/evolutionary purpose "postpartum depression" has?? from my point of view(uneducated on the subject) it seems like the woman feels disillusioned by the reality of a child compared to the fantasy she imagined; which creates turmoil. basically giant hamster.

This isn't event the main problem. Postpartum depression is real, and in rare cases it can drive a mother to homicide. The real problem is that if you try to tell a new mother that she's not 100% logical, you're mansplaining. Can't have it both ways.

Mental illness is a complicated subject. Penal law is another.

In some legal systems people go to jail for punishment, in others they go for reformation and re adaptation to at least one role in society (usually when it is assumed it is impossible for them to pay for their crimes), in others for both. This is a loooooooong discussion.

Man, any defendant's nightmare (nazi, fascist, he labels himself of it all), mass murderer (of kids!), deemed CAPABLE during the murderers, still has mental illness considered for his penalty.

Anyway, I have no idea how the law is in NY. If it's oriented towards punishment, I'd say you get a legit case of pussy pass (that's a quite real thing). If it is not, you'll probably get yourself into some complicated discussion before bringing up the pass.

Although, I think she's going to get off easily, and that's a shame... Post partum depression really fucks with your mind. After my younger sister was born, my mom went through it while I was a child (I was ~5 at the time). She literally could not tell wrong from right. I'm not defending her actions... But post partum depression isn't some stupid made up thing to get women out of doing stupid shit. She's fine now, but for a solid year or so, she was really not fit to take care of children.
