1st rule of relationships: In any relationship, the person with the most power is the one who needs the other least

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points24 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Funny I thought the exact same thing yesterday.

Remember to put your phone into loud, obnoxious mode when you're with a girl though. Dread game

[–]Hilarious_Exception9 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It definitely seems to work. Jealousy and stuff.

[–]loin_fruit5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Definitely this. Some plates will respond with asking who it is or they'll try and pick it up themselves. Dread always.

[–]MagneticJohnson 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

make sure the contact has a picture as well.

[–]silvertongue35 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Now this thread here was super useful. Actually a great example of subtle dread game.

[–]trphardmode0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Mulatto Butts (don't actually use that ringtone - but something equally annoying if you're running Archer game)

[–]Hilarious_Exception1 point 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I prefer "LANAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...!" personally. :)

[–]ChiefReap57 points58 points59 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My phone seems to stay silent no matter how loud i turn it up bruh

Unpredictable reward schedule is strongest reinforcer of Pavlovian conditioning.

[–]Senior Contributordr_warlock6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Punish immediately, reward intermittedly.

[–]JayViceroy1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This should be the top voted answer. Following the don't text her back with a certain time frame or don't text her more than 1:3 or whatever doesn't do anything. Text her back and forth immediately then disappear for an hour and text her again when she asks something. It works.

[–]Hilarious_Exception1 point 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That's interesting. I think that would definitely work with a new girl you're talking to. I'll have to try it when I'm looking for new ones.

[–]DK70960 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This. Intermittent reinforcement (specifically variable as opposed to fixed) is the strongest type and the best to use when trying to establish repeated patterns of behavior. Imagine Atlantic City or Vegas, all those people throwing away hard earned money into the slot machines, that's all variable ratio intermittent reinforcement. If the machine takes $500 and gives them nothing, they will not keep playing it. If it takes 500, but every once and a while gives them 20, 50, 2, 5, etc, then INCREDIBLY rarely gives someone (doesn't even have to be them) 100K, they'll be more than happy to keep sinking their money into it. Nothing to do with the fact that they've gotten the reward themselves, but because they know that they possibly have a CHANCE. Let that sink in. This is one of the most powerful tools you have available to you, Psych 101, if you can master this your text game will increase exponentially.

[–]aptway11 points12 points13 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The realization I've come to is that her wondering, "is he interested at all?" is a far better place to be in than "is he too interested/beta?"

While we say here to genuinely be too busy to respond, there are cases where you have a bit of free time, and remembering the 1:2/1:3 rule and leaving ample time between texts is certainly valuable, especially for the newbies.

[–]Hilarious_Exception 3 points3 points3 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah, no rule you read on here is ever going to be 100% true all the time. You got to pick the stuff that works for you, and apply it at the right time in the right situation.

[–]nativeofspace1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

In a normal conversation a 1:1 ratio is good for me, everyone's texting habits are different, mine are usually just back and forth exchange of a block of text at a time that others might split into several texts. Anyway, my rule has basically become; under no circumstances do you reply twice in a row/break your ratio of 1:1, and absolutely never send a text to see if they got your last text. None of that crap, not even if there's a fire, you instantly lose any power you had.

[–]Hilarious_Exception1 point 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

In my high school days, I used to ask why they hadn't texted back, especially when I thought that our conversation was fun for both sides. Now I realize that kind of behavior turns girls off; it's not confident. It was my own form of seeking validation because I wanted to make sure I still had her attention, because holding a girl's attention was a sign that I meant something. If I had just gone on to do other things like I do now and been more confident in myself, I probably would have had better luck in high school.

[–]myexile10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My phone has been on silent for like the last two years.

Only time I don't is I know someone is on their way over and I need to let them in the apartment or whatever. Then I turn up the volume so I actually get their call.

otherwise, fuck that. My phone doesn't need to interrupt me.

[–]2Overkillengine4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

However, one may want to consider putting the phone back on vibrate when in a woman's presence.

Still don't always reply to texts, but sometimes let her see you read them, and choose when/if to reply or not. (err on the side of not when with her)

It's hamster fodder for when she is the one messaging you.

[–]MyReddit44 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I used to follow hard and fast rules with texting. But what I've found is texting back when I'm available. This means, if I'm sitting on my ass and she texts me, I'll text her back right there. Most of the time the girls continue to respond immediately. Mini-convo with banter, then I stop. Next time I text her is for logistics only.

I've found that with younger girls, if you aren't having a bit of banter with them, you can lose the date simply because they get so insecure that you AREN'T texting them non-stop. Fucking teenagers...

So, I propose a happy middle-ground of text back when you are available, and then airplane mode for everything else.

[–]Hilarious_Exception1 point 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

This behavior keeps the image that you're very busy, so I can see how this works.

[–]abdada24 points25 points26 points 11 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Many years ago I hired an app developer to help me create a texting app for dating. It interfaced with Google Voice and worked wonders -- it would delay you seeing texts until a certain amount of time past the amount of time she responds to you. It red-flagged your responses if they were schlubby. It also highlight shit tests.

Unfortunately I didn't have the time to actually work on it, but I keep thinking about releasing it on an app store.

It was a LOT of fun testing it out with a great many hamsters spinning. Mostly cloud-based pattern recognition. Had about 2 dozen friends testing it and they all loved it.

[–]Endorsed ContributorScholarInRed21 points22 points23 points 11 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I'm no expert, but I understand enough about coding to know that if a piece of software can even understand the meaning of the average text (ie translate it into different terms while still saying all the same things) then it's ridiculously sophisticated.

I can't even imagine how it would identify a shit-test. Did it use a word-based similarity-scoring algorithm and a library of the most common shit-tests, or was it a full-on semantic language database?

[–]abdada5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Because it was just an idea that came up at a BBQ I hosted, I invited only close compadres to test it out. It was only a web-based app (mobile, basically) to refreshed Google Voice's incoming texts into a local server-controlled database.

The incoming texts were stored and then anyone in the group could go in and tag the text into a category. The texts were semi-anonymized but not well, really.

Back in the 90s I was prominent in what was called (back then) the collaborative filtering algorithm field. This was before the Netflix Prize and all that stuff -- I consulted with a few CFA developers and had my hand in a lot of proprietary code that is still very useful to this day.

If an incoming text was a word-for-word match, the web app would color code it. If the text was a close match after parsing through the collaborative filter algorithm, it would add a colored star as a warning. If the text was not a match at all, it wouldn't color it at all.

Over just a few months of testing the app, the database ended up being really well populated. And since we were crowdsourcing the human filtering, the actual human inputs were really great because it gave a lot of opinions on what she said and what the guys replied.

More than anything, the timing feature was the best part. You just didn't get bothered constantly and you never had a chance to respond too quickly. On top of that, I got caught a few times responding with some schlubby shit -- the app halted the sending and said "Are you SURE you want to say that?" and it gave me pause to think, edit and resend something better.

Over time I believe it would work well but only with a select group. Because of privacy laws, etc, etc, etc, I never ended up releasing it and eventually Google Voice changed their API or something so I decided not to throw more money at it.

[–]Baal-Hadad7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

This is a genius idea. A lot of men that don't understand text game would pay for this. The privacy concern is a bit of an issue though for sure.

[–]abdada1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The original intent was to actually give the customer the option to share confusing texts and allow them to filter out names.

So if you received a text that you had no idea how to answer, you could remove the name, upload it, and the active crowd would give ideas real time. You pick the best response and that person would get compensation for it.

[–]1aguy014 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Interesting. I think an app that removed all emoticons from your texts, added a minimum amount of time before you could respond, and added a 140 character limit to texts would be worth something for some guys.

[–]Gimprome 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So if you received a text that you had no idea how to answer, you could remove the name, upload it, and the active crowd would give ideas real time. You pick the best response and that person would get compensation for it.

An app solely that would probably be well recieved.

[–]friendlysociopathic3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

How on earth can you respect yourself if you need a computer to make up for your lack of social skills? I'm in no way disparaging the idea (it's brilliant and would be incredibly profitable if well-executed) but seriously, I think I'd straight up sever contact with any male friend I caught using this out of disgust.

[–]abdada4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Again, the whole purpose I have is to find producer methods to extract more out of consumers.

What is most education today?

Think about it for a minute...

What are most universities, online classes, self help books and tutorial websites about?

Extracting from the consumer.

All education today is about creating consumers for education services.

Teaching Game is just another consumer product. Teaching texting skills is just another consumer product. Just because you take on the role of a consumer does not permanently make you one, although most proponents of TRP have been and will always be consumers.

What's the problem with that? A good texting self-help app can help alpha/sigma producers still learning, and it can make dating lives better for the permanent consumer alphas.

[–]friendlysociopathic2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Hah, I like your philosophy - I think we have a lot in common. Your point about how education is about creating consumers for education services is actually fantastic and not one I've ever encountered before.

[–]abdada0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I throw a lot of shit out there that isn't pondered before.

Chicago Chapter of the Illuminati -- we're all about transparency.

(lololol)

[–]trphardmode0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm wondering if this could work for a local app with something like a bayesian filter - would require you to actually be able to recognize shit tests to train the thing, so would only really help when you were drunk or if you got your friend to train the filter.

[–]johnnycaustic0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is brilliant and I truly wish it were available.

[–]Senior Contributordr_warlock2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Put your phone on airplane mode and allow wifi so that there isn't a text to see when you fiddle with your phone.

[–]MilesAndDavis 2 points2 points2 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

This is honestly a great post. Going to implement a lot of what propel have suggested in here.

[–]Hilarious_Exception1 point 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Nice man! I hope it goes well for you! Some advice (though I'm not sure you need it): if you're not usually busy and you're used to texting girls back right away, it's a bit difficult to get used to not checking your phone all the time. This will change as you start developing your skills and getting more calls all the time. You'll come to appreciate the complete silence from your phone in time. I certainly have.

[–]Abreseyes 2 points2 points2 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Just to clarify this 2:3 thing , if it's in the early stages and she's not heavily invested then by not replying won't you come across as not interested?

I don't mean if you wait hours before texting back or send shorter messages than her but if you never respond and wait for her to satisfy the ratio

[–]Hilarious_Exception1 point 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

If she's not invested, I would say it might be time to move on and try another girl. You're not going to win every time. My post deals specifically for when you're actively texting girls and they have interest in you, and you want to maintain that interest. I can say for sure that if you act like you need her more than she needs you, she'll be bored to tears. You could adhere to the tenets of TRP completely and even believe all of them about how you're the alphaest alpha of the alphas, but if your actions say that you need this girl more than she needs you, she'll lose interest. This, at least, has been my experience.

[–]plentyoffishes1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think counting ratios is weaker/more beta than just....texting when you want to. Feel like texting her? Do it. Don't have anything to say? Don't text her back. Simple as that. I happen to enjoy texting when it involves witty banter, and I have no care about what the ratio happens to be.

[–]Hilarious_Exception1 point 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It's cool man. You gotta do what works for you. I've found that this method works for me and keeps me working on the important things.

[–]MoneyStatusLooks 4 points4 points4 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

There is no such thing as a golden ratio. Just don't be a fucking desperate, clingy, needy loser. If you need to put your phone on silent to hide that, your doing it wrong.

[–]redpillgainz2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

I believe OP's intentions are to put the phone on silent in order to condition yourself to not be that clingy, needy person. Fake it til' you make it.

[–]Hilarious_Exception3 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah actually. I put my phone on silent the other week because I have this girl repeatedly texting me at my work, and I got tired of hearing my phone buzzing on my desk and distracting me and everyone, so I put it on complete silent. When I did that, I found my mood got better and I was less concerned about my phone and social circle. I had more focus in everything I did. After realizing how great I felt after doing that one simple thing, I thought that r/TRP people might want to know about it since it's a neat trick to becoming more comfortable with yourself.

It's the RP cliff notes

[–]trphardmode0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Some people hate running game, so they don't. Some people hate building up money, status and looks - so they just run game. That short bald poor dude that was your last plate's ex-bf did not text her very often.

[–]MoneyStatusLooks1 point 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Think of it as being levelled up. If you level up in every area, you get to the point where you can text a girl whenever you want and it makes no difference.

There have been times when I've had like a whole evening more or less texting with a chick, then I don't reply to her messages for like 3 days because I am ACTUALLY busy doing shit instead of pretending to be. The fucking hot/cold stuff gets them even more wet as well and makes the hamster go overdrive.

There aren't any rules, other than be fucking attractive.

[–]4benny2lava00 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I pride myself on how fast and reliable I am in answering and returning all downs of communication. This is hurting my game?

[–]Hilarious_Exception 1 points1 points1 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It could be. Prompt communication definitely helps in the business world, so I wouldn't slack off there, but in the dating game it might come off as "he has no life" or "I know exactly what he's doing because he's going to tell me very quickly." If you slow down on your texting and pretend you're busy, girls eat that up. They love that you have goals and interests outside of them, and they ironically want to be a part of your life more for it.

[–]4benny2lava00 points1 point2 points 11 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

This makes sense. Women will always think of me first when they are in a jam because Im super reliable. I'm making myself into a beta buck to the rescue it seems.

In retrospect I had a girl call me at 1am around this time last year from 800mi away asking for help to get her where I am because her perturbed was in the hospital. We go back so I would have been happy to help however I was in the middle of throwing a huge party and I was really fucked up at the time. I'm like I'll call you when I'm sober.

She called every half hour into the morning trying to get me to do something when there was nothing I could do.

Now that I'm thinking about it she hasn't really called for anything social since then.

Looks like it's time to stop being reliable in my social life.

What about organizing social events. I make all the plans and organization in my circle of close friends. Is this good or bad for my smv?

[–]Hilarious_Exception 1 points1 points1 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I don't have experience with organizing social events like parties, but as for stopping being reliable, if you say you're going to do something then you should do it. If you're the leader of your group, that's sexy for sure.

What I'm saying is: during your text banter, keep to the golden ratio. If you keep your phone on silent, this is easier to do.

[–]4benny2lava00 points1 point2 points 11 years ago [recovered] (0 children) | Copy Link

Real talk run point on parties even if it's not your party. Being on setup gets you tons of advantages.

You are an authority figure when the party starts, you have established rapport with what ever women are there before the party. This in turn means you now have a mutual friend with everyone there so what was once a cold approach is now "you are so and so's friend right? Nice to meet you" you are leveraging your game and getting more rapport with more people with less effort thus upping your smv.

[–]Endorsed Contributorredpillbanana0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I set my phone to silence (unless someone has made an appointment to call me) because fuck interruptions.

To see how damaging interruptions are, read Paul Grahams essay on Good and Bad Procrastination.

...forcing someone to perform errands synchronously is bound to limit their productivity. The cost of an interruption is not just the time it takes, but that it breaks the time on either side in half. You probably only have to interrupt someone a couple times a day before they're unable to work on hard problems at all.

[–]Hilarious_Exception2 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That's fine man. I'm not interested in meeting the new standard. It's boring to read the same post over and over. You can edit and resubmit if you want.

[–]∞ Mod | RP Vanguardbsutansalt0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

All you have to do is add a summary/tl;dr up top. I see you already have a main takeaway at the end.

[–]Hilarious_Exception2 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah I know. If you want to do that and submit it as your own, that's fine. I personally don't care for this new system though, so I won't be doing anything to fix it.

I know as a mod that you have a difficult and respectable job to enforce the rules and make sure there is quality content for all to consume and use. Few people understand the pressures that you have to go through to strike that delicate balance.

However, I cannot support this new system. I made this post to help others by showing what has worked for me, and I wrote it in such a way that I believed would make my point concise and clear without a summary or tl;dr. I wrote it in full awareness that it might be taken down, and I am fine to accept that as a consequence. I helped who I could, and I am fine with that.

Please continue to maintain your high standard of quality to keep this subreddit helping men everywhere!
