I always thought that sexuality was 100% determined by genetics. However, I'm starting to change my opinion. I think that biochemistry does play an important roll, however the psychological upbringing on the children plays a much bigger than we currently believe.

I have a few case studies of people I know.

Firstly, the psychology of sexuality is deep rooted into our psyches and is very instrumental in infant years. A friend of mine has had a little baby boy and I think he's in a perfect shitstorm of fucked up behaviours. His mom is a feminist, her eldest daughter has been taking MMA lessons for years and could whoop almost any person of her age regardless of gender (unless they've received similar training). She was given guns to play with as a child. While her son is almost being indoctrinated into playing with dolls.

This kind of causes tension between her and her father. When he mentions anything about this, she always pretends to be the good mother and tells the kid that she'll love him if he's gay/bi/transexual or anything (but she fails to mention straight). The father I believe keeps failing this huge shit test by playing into the badguy persona the mother is creating for him, he does this by not mentioning how she's giving him a giant headfuck but by coming across as homophobic (he's not in the slightest but he can't articulate or doesn't even understand the psychology of what's happening).

Now from the childs perspective, he will see his father as the bad guy and the only way to turn him into a good guy is the pressure of being straight. The mother is the good guy and will cuddle him with hugs and kisses, especially if he's gay. If the father becomes hated by the child, he will take the double effect of her mothers influence and the want to dissociate himself from the father as much as possible.

If someone is having a discussion about you (as though your not there) and the mother says "He doesn't have a big nose but if he did, I'd love him anyway." and then the father says "Yeah but he has a big nose" then the child is going to believe he's got a big nose no matter what size it is. This kind of debate is too hard for a child to hear.

It is really frustrating to go over there and watch this headfuck take place. I have said a few things about the way they make him interact with me but I feel I'm unable to explain this to them without them getting their parental defences up and maybe even antagonising the whole thing.

The second person is my friend throughout school. He is gay and feels like he's a man trapped in a womans body. He's a decent person and I've known him almost all my life. He grew up in a military family where this exact same psychological mindfuck happened to him. His father is a complete homophobe, his older brother was even worse and our whole school was at the time terrible when it came to homophobia. Now I've heard that it's almost a cliche that a military general will bring up a "faggit son."

Now my sister and I were brought up in a feminist household, my father a complete beta and my mother basically created a monster out of my sister. For some reason my mother has this giant chip on her shoulder about men, despite the fact that my father and grandad gave her everything she has, half of which she's thrown down the toilet. Yet she brought my sister up to destroy any man she hooked up with. I honestly felt sorry for the next poor guy that came into contact with her. Now after many years of having these pretty much perfect boyfriends, good jobs, good looking, younger, sporting, wanting to commit, she decided that there are 'no good men around' and is now in a relationship with an extremely masculine lesbian. I've also been in contact with other people that have been brought up in feminist households whose daughters later become lesbian. Just a coincidence?
