Warning - This is going to be an angry rant, so those looking for more placid reading should steer clear.

We just watched the documentary "Life 2.0" on Netflix streaming. It's all about the virtual world/network Second Life, which is an odd 3D fantasyland. People create avatars and wander around chatting to each other and building things. The documentary focuses on three examples - An obese woman who lives in her parents' basement and plays in Second Life as a gorgeous & leggy Pam Grier avatar, a really disturbing dude who plays as an 11 year old girl, and a woman who divorces her husband for an online affair.

She is married and apparently has a nice house in a nice neighborhood and a young daughter. She goes onto SL for "escape" from this unsatisfying existence and meets the Other Man, who she has an affair with. In a virtual fantasyland. The two of them fly hand-in-hand over mountains and oceans, live in 3D castles, sit by the ocean watching the sunset, etc. It is mind-blowingly "princess fantasy" to the max. They declare their love for each other. He is married too. They begin sneaking off to meet up in hotels. This goes on for a year. Finally, she tells her husband, kicks him out of the house, divorces him, and moves the new guy in. After only a few months of living together in the real world, instead of Disneyland, she annoys him so much he moves back out and breaks things off with her. Her part of the documentary ends with her giving a weepy confession to the camera as she looks back on it all.

The punchline?

Her: "I can't believe he left me, he doesn't love me, I am the real victim here."

That was just... jaw dropping. She broke up someone else's marriage, she took her husband's house and kicked him to the curb, she booted out her daughter's father just as her daughter is entering her early teen years, and despite her having chosen to initiate every one of these life-wrecking decisions HERSELF, she still wants to paint herself as the "victim".

I felt like shouting, "No, bitch, your DAUGHTER is the real victim here - You've just taken away her father AND the support of a stable family unit AND her vision of a healthy family AND a positive male role model for her teen years AND given her a horrible, horrible example of how a grown woman can behave." And through all that, she only mentioned her daughter once, in a whine about how her daughter was not immediately accepting this strange man that mom had moved into the house to replace dad.

It was a stupefying example of how one person could wreck five lives through sheer narcissism, and then STILL turn around and try to claim she was the victim.
