Thoughts about video games .

The typical thought process on this sub is that they're mostly a bad idea.

They're a waste of time, don't provide any real value to your life aside from entertainment, and you can easily waste many, many days of your life on them.

I think there's also an understanding on here that if you're generally being a boss at life, spending a few hours a week playing a game isn't a big problem - it's like watching a movie or feeding ducks beside a pond or any other non-productive relaxation activity. The problem is that a lot of the men who come here have low SMV, and spend a significant chunk of their lives playing video games. People who do that, and don't have a career or other professional/status reason (e-sports, bonding with the boss) to play video games for that much time are wasting their lives, are unlikely to make progress with women, and are unlikely to have as happy and fulfilling lives (unless they get all life fulfillment from video games, which I think most men on here feel isn't true).

It's like any vice - gambling, weed, alcohol, even sex (sorta, the rules are a little different here). It's fine, as long as you aren't letting it take over your life, and keep it to a minimum for relaxation/enjoyment.

I'm in progress of selling my PS4. The thought of sitting on a couch and playing videogames is not appealing anymore. And I can't justify the cost. I see it as a wasted time and money that could be spent better elsewhere.

If you enjoy em, play em. If you make your day revolve around them....you need to change.

This goes for just about anything in life. Where this board primarily gets it wrong is they single out video games for some reason. Probably because its the most popular form of entertainment for the generation that posts here.

Video games are a good way to relax with your friends (the ones you know IRL). That said, if you're addicted to them (you spend over 3 hours/day trying to get to a certain elo), they're a waste of time that could be dedicated to something else like advancing your career, approaching, lifting, sleeping, cooking, traveling, reading.

I had been addicted to video games for most of my life until I realized they're like procrastination and masturbation: you fuck yourself and you're left feeling empty. There are so many more worthy uses of your time that they should really only take up time as a special treat and be used to burn off a little bit of stress. If you can't end a game feeling relaxed and ready to do something else, don't play.

I deleted all of my games a year ago, cold turkey. You'll have much more time on your hands to develop yourself, while resetting your dopamine system and desiring social interactions.

I've ranted about this before so I'll try and keep it brief. A game changer (no pun intended) has been the decline in the quality of the games themselves. Gamergate to me seems like the latest in a long chain of decline in gaming since the early 2000s. Bloated clients, console wars, skinner box gameplay, the decline of LAN parties, political correctness, developers that can't count to 3, and just plain piss poor buggy code have made gaming a shadow of the former thing that compelled me.

A crude metaphor...an addict will suck dick for crack or something similar. But would the same addict suck the same dick for a bag of brown dirt weed that's full of stems and seeds? Not likely. Kind of hard to stay addicted to something that doesn't get you off to begin with.

That's my take on video games. There are so few games that are even worth it any more.

I play games fairly often. I enjoy the hell out of them and if i want to play them I don't care what anyone else thinks. Its my deal. But my gaming comes after work, sports, socializing, practicing my turntables I use to play music at parties, and then any other activity I want to do. Last is video games. Its like anything else, if you can play in moderation and get what you want out of it, do what you feel.

I spend an insane amount of time online, social media, etc as well but that's purely work. My job requires I'm knowledgeable about that sort of content and that also includes video games.

Now, I haven't paid for a game in quite some time. I'm not standing in line with the dorks at game shops at midnight for releases. I borrow the games from dorks later. It all just depends on you, you're time and resources, and how you decide you want to spend it.

Video games are to life what sugar is to food. A little occasionally is fun, but too much will make you fat, and ultimately shorten your life.

Playing video games does not make you a better friend, employee, or human being. Other than immediate pleasure and satisfaction for leveling-up, you gain nothing, and you spend money and time.

So no more than a few hours a week.

I don't understand why people on this sub make it seem as though everything needs to be done to increase your SMV. If that is the case, the case, then the only thing we should be doing is working out, working on our game, finding a great source of income, etc.

I see video games the same as movies. Both are entertainment and "waste time". As long as you know that video games shouldn't be used to escape, and limit yourself, everything should be fine.

Waste of time, and more or less instant gratification. Having said that, wasting a little time from time to time is not dangerous. Now if you can restrict yourself to only playing a couple hours on the weekends, go right ahead. I personally can't, so I had to cut them out from my life entirely.

Basically the same as should you have cheat meals? No, you should not eat like a complete pig everyday, but it's okay to have a cheat meal occasionally. Same applies to video games.

Video game addicts are like fat people. Bodybuilders will get pizza and McDonald's occasionally if it fits their macros and the rest of the diet is on point. Same for video games; you can play them occasionally if you're still being red pill and making improvements in most aspects of your life.

Video games are a drug, it gives you the feeling of accomplishment and victory. While it may not always be easy to get that, with competitive gaming, and chances to compete with other opponents who have dedicated time to become masters of their games.

In your life it does not help much. As mentioned before by /u/cocaine_face they need to be done in moderation if done at all. Don't spend more than a few hours a week (even that is probably more than you should be) Consider what could be done if you weren't gaming. 1 hour less gaming -> 1 hour of lifting/running/training 1 more hour less of gaming -> 1 hour of studying a foreign language etc etc.

Everyone needs their "go to" thing to unwind, it just needs to be done so that it truly is just a bit of unwinding time before getting back to business.

I had a pretty good balance of playing video games and doing productive stuff until Destiny came out. Then it all went to shit haha. I spend way too much time on that damn game. I haven't let it get in the way of staying in good shape, but hot damn I haven't made a move on a chick in ages.

In one of my business I create video games. It's so much better to be the producer rather than the consumer. When one merely consume one is not creating value. The process of producing an output create value.

In the video game industry: if you want to get accomplished make your own business as a game. Then, win your own game. You win exploiting other people (the consumers) weaknesses. You make other people accomplished giving them your system on which they will feel accomplished.

You should actually love all the weak people in the world. You should love all the people who are not "red". They make it possible for you to play the game you want.

Long live to the weak ones!
