Every once in a while, there are major complications from vasectomies. I think I saw a post from a guy in r/relationships about a guy who lost both nuts and control of his urinary sphincter after a bad one.

I did it at 37. One of the best things I've ever done for myself. The other thing was laser eye correction when I was 34. It's rare that I tell them, and if they show me a recent std test I'll raw dog em, otherwise it's Jimmy for me.

I've thought about it too.. I'm 35 now and if i get any older I'll be raising kids chose to retirement age..

birth control has been effective so far, but as we have trouble getting along I'm nervous about being trapped

I did it. Every woman I have told that I have a vasectomy has stopped seeing me with some kind of BS reason within 2 - 3 weeks, without fail.

I'm 43. A 41 year old woman with an 11 year old son did this recently. She can't handle the idea of not having the choice of having children. Even at 41.

Do it, but don't talk about it. I'm not suggesting you lie (that's up to you), but women don't like having that choice made for them.

I'm 45, and the vasectomy was the best money I ever spent. I have 2 kids (love 'em, but they're not my woooorld), and knew I'd never want any more.

Minimum time in the doc's office, good drugs, free excuse to goof off for the weekend. It seems like my balls hang tighter now, like they're scared, but my load hasn't changed.

31 seems a little young (I have a friend who's still trying to start a family at almost 50), but you know yourself better than I do. I will tell you that I can't stand (other peoples') kids either, and I had 2. When they're your own, you can't help but love them.

Caveat: If you're a big macho guy who decides he's going to help a friend move the next day, you're gonna have a bad time. Take 2 days and let your body recover.

Got one earlier this year with zero regrets. I've also been married 10 years and have a kid already, but once we were done wiping shit and teaching her how to eat, we decided it was not an experience we wanted to deal with twice.

Every procedure has some scary experience to go along with it, and everyone has their "but my friend got raped to death by whales after his vasectomy! Don't get one, they're dangerous!" story, but the reality is if you go to an experienced doctor who doesn't use their first name after "Dr.", you'll be fine.

I had mine done at 24. I can actually attribute more sex since then to that fact. Let a woman know there can be no "oops" moments, and a lot of LMR goes right out the window.

Got it in my mid 30's. Never married by choice, no kids. I was expecting the doc to really question my decision, but nope, he happily took my insurance money. And being it was out patient surgery, I paid only $30 co-pay (I had good insurance through work).

If you are sure you don't want kids, it's the way to go. If one person in the relationship wants a baby, doesn't matter the men or women, it can happen easily without the consent of the other one.

In fact, there's actually a market place for "positive" pregnancy tests so women can use them to trap their men. If you've had a vasectomy, no such worry.

But have to state the obvious... does not protect against STD, just crazy women's schemes.

Luckily I've had no such crazy women in my life... yet. But I have heard a story from the gym, which is a place full of surprsing drama. I suppose if you are friends with trainers that hang out there all day, you hear stories. Anyway woman got knocked up, claimed it was his to coerce marriage. He had a vasectomy, confirmed to be shooting blanks, but didn't tell her before. She blamed him for not being truthful, and somehow they end up getting married anyway and he's raising the kid that was just part of her scheme. Beta as fuck, and poor kid.

With that said, I don't see a problem with single mom's (other guy's) kid. The way it happened with the beta was bad. But if you walk in knowing this is part of the deal, and you are okay with it, then go for it. You are a good man to be willing to raise and provide for someone else's kid. Hopefully the kid grows up to be a decent person, and appreciates your efforts.

Sounds like it's right for you. Some people just don't want kids and they know it from a very young age. I knew as a preteen that I wasn't having kids. I got the job done at 23 (I'm 30 now) and I haven't regretted it for even 1 second. I'm loving the vasectomy more and more each year. It's the gift that just keeps giving.

I'm almost 30 and I don't like kids whatsoever but I still keep going back and forth on the decision for vasectomy. On one hand It will make my life so much simpler. On the other hand, I feel like it is massively disrespectful to my grandfather, who fought through WW2 for years in brutal conditions to make sure his genes passed on. I think about how many men from that generation never made it through. Now I'm just going to give up like a pussy because it's difficult/out of my comfort zone?

If you can store some of your sperm, I'd advise doing that before you get the vasectomy. Just in case you change your mind years later.

31 seems pretty young to get a vasectomy. However if you've been considering this for a "very long time", and you believe you know yourself well enough that you won't want kids in the future, then it's a logical choice. I'm in my early 40's and am thinking of getting one myself. But I already have two kids.

It might be good to consider how much you've changed in the past ten years. Be honest with yourself. Then look 10-15 years ahead and think about how much you may grow and change as a person. Is it possible you may want children down the line?

What if you meet the perfect woman who really completes you, but she wants to have at least one child? Something to think about.

If you really know you won't want kids, then I say yes, definitely get a V. From what I've read, the procedure is safe, effective, and the recovery time is pretty quick.

Post-procedure and once you're healed, I'd still use a condom or get yourself off for a few weeks before having unprotected sex. Just to make sure you've completely cleared out any remaining sperm from your body. And of course, using protection is still recommended.
