As mentioned in another post, as a man, financial independence is crucial. Here are some rules that I live by that have brought me great benefits.

Pay with hard cash as often as possible. Never buy it unless you ACTUALLY have the money to pay for it in one shot.

If you don't need it, but it would be 'nice' to have, don't buy it.

Always put half your earnings in a seperate bank account for emergencies.

If it breaks, fix it, if it breaks again fix it again.

Never let anyone borrow money, ever.

Never cosign. NEVER. Especially on phone contracts.
