Say we did this for a year. How about we compile a list of 50 books? Two years? 100 books? How about a TRP library? An ongoing TRP library? Who's going to man this ongoing library? Who will be the TRP librarian?
Would be sweet to have curated books, films, and music for TRP.

Definitely in need of some really good marketing books right now.
[–]absolucion0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If people share the books they read, this may be a good thread to get that project started. I wouldn't mind working with a couple of guys to get that done.
[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
How about a book that covers both being an online millionaire and squirting. I would call it : "The piss soaked Prince"
[–]Alanranks74 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link
Yeah I am up to this challenge. Now I just need books to read. Does anybody have any recommendations?

The 48 laws of power - Rob Greene
If you just started reading TRP, I would reccomand starting with no more mr nice guy followed by The rational male. Both are core to TRP.

To add to this already great list: •Gorilla Mindset •The Book of Pook •The Charisma Myth • Sex God Method • The Way of Men • The Willpower Instinct • Mastery by Robert Greene (Author of 48 Laws of Power)

Why is it out of date? It's a great book about improving yourself and taking action to gain a better life. The context and moral/lesson of the book isn't about any specific action or actions in the book, it's about getting what you want, putting your own needs first and gaining value through your own achiements and progress rather than through the validation of other people.
Although it isn't as powerfull as a lot of classics, it's a great way to get started and I really don't believe that the book can ever get outdated. Remember, you have to learn how to crawl before you start running.

The diagnosis is fine, as well as the description of covert/implicit contracts and the passive aggressive nature of "Nice Guy". Which is why I think it has such a fan club because he repeats a description that seems "just like me" to lots of BP readers( over and over).
From my reading he basically says ... here's the red pill and what's unfixably happened to your marriage in terms of loss of her respect, now go stand outside like "John Cusack" in "Say Anything" as the biggest White Knight in history and it'll likely get fixed up auto-magically by (god/unicorns/jesus/nofap/deeper good nature of women) anyway.
[–]Swallowed_the_pill0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
What? He does in no way say that you should "go stand outside" to fix the broken relationships, whetever it's one with a wife or a parent, he talks about the importance of saying no, putting your own needs first and setting boundaries. I dont understand how you and those up to being a white knight, as that is basically the opposite. A white knight is just a vocal nice guy.

Models by mark manson could be a decent alternative by the amount of praise it gets here.
[–]Whiteout--1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Models definitely has some good lessons in there, like the core message of respecting yourself so that others may do the same, but some of the behaviors he suggests are a little needy IMO.

Get real.
NMMNG is a must read for every single man who seeks success in relationships with women and in life.
I don't even attribute it to TRP. Just a book on improving yourself through realizing you are full of shit.
[–]Fulp_Piction0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's a great aid for breaking through the initial guilt/shame we're conditioned to feel when we start putting ourselves first. I'd consider it a must read.

I'm up for the challenge as well.
[–]absolucion1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm on board. I've got probably a dozen books I've been meaning to read that I haven't made the time for. Time to do just that. I'm going to start with "The Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey. I've been meaning to work out a legitimate budget for myself instead of winging it.
Anyone else interested?

I'm in but I feel /redpillbooks is already doing this and will be more organized. But hey you can improve your self too much
[–]Alpacash[S] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is a challenge for those who don't read regularly tho.
[–]ElCthuluIncognito1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Im on board. What do yall think about "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius?
[–]absolucion1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That's a book that is typically suggested here and one I plan to read (since I have a copy).
[–]ElCthuluIncognito1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Began reading it. Absolutely recommended. Really seems to lean to the MGTOW crowd, but interesting nonetheless.

If everyone is stuck for books to read then read all the books by chuck palahniuk (author of fight club) I promise they are the most amazing fucking reads on this planet.

I'm up for a challenge. I love reading but I find it hard to with a full time job, full time school, and social life.
After reading that post earlier about meditation in the morning for 20 minutes, I think I'll start doing that and spend an hour reading afterwards before I start my day. I'll start with how to win friends and influence people. I've had it for awhile but never the chance to open it up.
Maybe make another post on May 15th and tag all the people who said they would do the challenge to see where they are at.
This is TRP, and swallowing the pill was the first challenge. Let's keep it up.
It's a great book. Remember to read the introduction and the part about how to use the book. It's a great way to use every book that you read for learning purposes. Also, you will always have time for reading. Even if it's just a few minutes a day.

Oh I'm totally down for that. Summer reading challenge. Does anyone know what the best translation of Machiavelli's The Prince is?
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Get the second edition of Mansfield's translation. I do a lot of research before picking translations so you can trust that I found something somewhere either suggesting that this translation was better or other translations were worse.

We could have a weekly thread where RP'ers post what book they read and give their own synopsis of it. It would be great for discourse in cases of RP'ers reading the same literature and for obtaining suggestions on what to read next. I fucking love this idea. I'm almost done with my certification as well so I will have more free time to read.
Edit: A bit unconventional, but I highly recommend reading "On Combat" and "On Killing" by Dave Grossman. He delves into the psychology and physiology of killing another human being as well as fight/flight. It strips away all the social programming and really lays bare the animals we are amd why we think and act as we do naturally and how we adapted those impulses socially.
[–]glenfiddichlaker310 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes I definitely am on board.
[–]Red_PillCosby0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If my red pill brethren and the freshly disillusioned need some inspiration, listen to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eO4dP9_Rfc
^ Rules a red pill man should live by, IMO.
Lastly, consider this quote: "A man don't get mad at the truth, he just accepts it and sees if he needs to make a change".
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've got The Prince and Meditations collecting dust on my nightstand. Challenge accepted.

Reading a large volume of books seems to have diminishing returns.
What's the point of reading? Self-improvement? Being more interesting? Entertainment? Artistic indulgence/pleasure? Gaining perspective? Worldly awareness?
If it's the first two, I feel most would be better off picking 1-2 books per month and reading them slowly, critically, and perhaps multiple times, rather than plowing through as much new content as possible.
There is nearly infinite content on the web, and you look at that every day, but if you don't stop to actually synthesize and internalize, you'll most likely just lose it and/or become overwhelmed.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
Reading is quickly becoming a lost skill. Reading a wide range of published works on a wide array of topics diversifies your knowledge base and allows you to be more versatile socially. That is what college is really supposed to be but nobody really gets an education anymore, just a degree. Reading a focused piece of non-fiction stimulates your critical thinking and hones your ability to focus in on a single topic. This will honestly be a struggle for me as I haven't read a non-textbook in almost 3 years. Reddit has nuked my attention span. If you wanna fuck "woo" girls for the rest of your life then by all means keep your steady diet of Twitter feeds going. I would like to be a better man, and this goes a long way toward that.
