I can't see why women claim to hate being catcalled.

It depends on the man doing it. Low SMV == Creep == OMG! I hate it. High SMV == Purr Purr.

They want to keep all options open for them and that's why they claim to hate it. This is also part of their slut-shield, since they might be called a slut if they admitted that they liked it.

In all seriousness, I can't see why women claim to hate being catcalled.

In my opinion, it's the low barrier to entry results in guys who catcall being low value.

I'm a relatively friendly, happy, good looking guy. And I really am sick and tired of girls approaching me. Why? Because they're always one of a few types of girls:
1. Unnattractive, way below my smv.
2. Attractive and not looking to sleep with me. Not the "oh, I'm totally not looking to do that" kind, the married/fiance/periodic-girl-who-doesn't-date-anyone-ever kind. They're looking to validate themselves by making me into their pseudo-boyfriend - their G-movie-rated "boyfriend" who they'll smile and prance off near the end the evening, happy that they've proven their social worth and attractiveness to themselves before going back and sleeping with their boyfriend (or no one, in some girls cases).
3. She's attractive, and she'll sleep with me if I play my cards right, but there's a reason why she has to be aggressive and other girls don't - once you get to know her she's completely nuts. You start getting worried that she'll have pointedly consensual sex with you then tell people you raped her, or she'll try to get herself pregnant, or - something nasty.

How many guys actually catcall who have high value? Almost none. They just don't need to. The guy catcalling is usually some broke guy with nuttin' to lose.

Oh, but they do. Especially if they're in larger groups. You know those groups where half of the girls are butt ugly/fat, some more are okay and a few are pretty and they're all sitting somewhere drinking beers? The 'hotties' and 'nice butt'-s are flying all over the place.

I like it. It's a good exercise in outgaming someone, especially as they've already indicated interest and can't back down.

Catcalling is stupid for anyone to do. All you're doing is boosting their ego without getting anything in return. Even if a girl thinks you're hot, you're just making yourself look like a dumbass by doing that. Why would you just drive by and honk at a girl saying she's hot? You're not getting jack shit by doing that.

You almost never see anyone catcalling by themselves - it's mostly young boys who have confidence because they're with a group of friends. Sometimes girls will say hello to me when they are with friends, but no one ever has confidence to approach by themselves.

Why don't women catcall?

My guess is the same reason they don't usually initiate - they like being pursued and don't want to appear desperate.

I can't see why women claim to hate being catcalled.

I can think of 4 reasons this is probably the case, and it involves a combination of all of them:

1) Cat calling is low risk, cowardly behavior, and it shifts the burden of having to lead onto her. When you catcall someone, ie: yelling something sexual at her while she's walking by, when you have the opportunity to approach her and start a conversation, you're basically signaling "Hey, I don't have the balls to approach you, because your presence intimidates me! All I can do is yell something and then put the ball in your court to come to me!" Obviously, this is unattractive to her, and women despise unattractive men.

2) The guys who do it are mostly low SMV / would-be-invisible. You know how there's a certain SMV threshold in men where a woman will completely disregard the existence of anyone below that threshold? Now all of the sudden this low SMV man she would normally ignore is cat calling her and she's forced to acknowledge him. This would piss her off. High SMV desirable men don't catcall. They approach and initiate conversation.

3) It happens all the fucking time. Now, if someone was cat called by the low SMV man above and it was a rare occurrence, it might be something novel and funny and something to tell her friends about. But it doesn't happen every once in a while. It happens all the time, and if she's even moderately attractive, it's probably happened non stop since she was 13. You can imagine how the frequency, coupled with the quality of man doing it can get really old, really fast.

4) It puts women in fight or flight mode, since most men are more physically intimidating than women, and men usually cat call in groups. Self explanatory, especially when coupled with the reasons above.

Conclusion:

Getting cat called as a guy isn't the same as getting cat called as a woman. Ironically, OP, you are being solipsistic and only seeing this through a man's eyes and not a woman's by saying that you find it fun and like it. Men very rarely get cat called, so when it does happen, it's funny and since men rarely get direct ego boosts, this also helps. Also, men generally find a much larger percentage of women attractive, then women find men attractive. So like I said above, women get cat called way more by unattractive men, hence anger.

That being said, I believe women can benefit from cat calling (or more accurately, complaining about it) indirectly. Complaining about being cat called accomplishes 2 big things:

Gets victimhood/sympathy/support/attention from other women and beta orbiters.
Signals to other women that they are desirable by men (female female competition is HUGE and isn't much talked about here). This also explains why whales who get the occasional cat call chomp at the bit to let everyone know.
