This is true to a degree, but I would say everyone in OWS forgot the purpose of the protest. It was to protest the specific issue of corporations being able to buy votes in congress via PACs, the government bailout of bankers, tax evasion / loopholes available to the financial elite, etc. Specific issues that even republicans / libertarian types could have gone behind. Even a Ron Paul supporter would have agreed that PACs allowed for an unacceptable influence of corporations upon government - exactly the type of thing that "seperation of state and economics" would have also protested.

OWS then amalgamized and diluted its demands, claiming to be a protest not about specific, narrow issues, but rather the general topic of income disparity. Instead of being about an idea that everyone can pretty much get behind, government employees shouldn't get these glorified bribes, OWS became about "raising awareness". About 1 month in, it was all about "We are the 99%". This polarized most potential supporters - anyone to the right who would have been tempted to try to see eye to eye with them now believed they were typical hipsters. Even lefties began to realize that OWS was the lowest common denominator of lefties.

Which is why you can't let these stupid slogans and witticisms and portmaneaus and blanket terminologies get out of hand. When you're campaign goes from "This issue is unconstitutional, corrupt, and highly detrimental for these 3 reasons" to "EAT THE RICH, FORGIVE MY STUDENT LOANS" then you start only attracting morons to your side.

Which means for RP as a subreddit, we have to be more than the cliches and slogans like "Alpha fucks beta bucks" / "spin plates bro" / "hamster hits wall LOLOL". Do that and we'll become a subreddit full of retards who lack independent thought, just like OWS.

I heard the same thing happened during the occupy movement in Australia, radfems joined up and started making everything about gender instead of class which alienated most of the protesters.

I was a part of OWS and I grew increasingly aggravated.

The whole idea of it was that there was no hierarchy and no leader so whatever anyone said was as valid as what anyone else says. The problem is few of those people were educated in economics, politics or activist tactics that will get taken seriously. Whenever people that did spoke out, they were overwhelmed by the hundreds that didn't know anything.
Most people had no clue about the issue and were just there to be a part of "the scene"
Too many hippies. They are useless and ruin everything.
What is the point of the drum circles?
The intelligent people that could help the cause were working and couldn't hang out there all day so the morons were the ones that became the face of OWS (also media selectivity)
If you're going to protest corporations, don't smoke cigarettes. There's nothing stupider than fighting corporations buying politicians while paying corporations to kill you.

That was exactly my same experience, although in all fairness, it had less to do with race and more to do with anti-authoritarians unwilling to follow ANY leader.

Reminds me of the occupy camp in the financial center of my country. After a few months there were only drug addicts, hobos and gypsies left.

Have you seen the 99% website, where people complain why they're poor? It's mostly because they paid 50k+ to study some liberal arts bullshit. You won't find many engineers or programmers there.

As someone who was involved in a bunch of camps on the west coast until finally staying at the front lines of Occupy Oakland, this has a lot to do with it but it's not as cut and dry as this makes it sound. Honestly, if I were to go deeper into it I'd sound like a 'conspiracy raving lunatic' because a lot of what was wrong goes against what the hive mind wishes to believe about what the government is capable of.

Gotta admit though, when people started waking up after the NSA shit, the little part of me that died during the first tear gassing felt vindicated.

I must say that I don't believe in divine providence. But damn, history sometimes look like that, that something makes bad, periods or directions of history backfire.

For complicated reasons I am very anti-leftist. I mean you can tar and feather the crooked bankers for all I care, just don't do it for leftist reasons, do it because they are crooks :)

So I feared one day leftism will win a final victory. It turned out I did not consider an important thing:

Any movement explicitly focusing on human equality will sooner or later chase the masculine men away and thus lose power.

You see for a while masculine guys could be lefty. Back then when it was steel foundry workers vs. fat businessmen. Back then they really believed it is just about kicking the rich man in the butt and helping the blue-collar man. They did not really know or believe it is about general egalitarianism. Once they figured that out they abandoned it.

Basically the point is if the reincarnation of Che Guevara is amongst us, he is probably chasing pussy and not touching the todays left with a long stick, because he is totally not going to walk around with a "I need feminism because bronies" sign.

And this means in the long run, despite almost having won everything, leftism can still lose.

This is really interesting to hear because the main critisism of OWS was that the public couldn't identify what they specifically stood for.

I wished the whole movement would come out with a few universal ideas everyone could rally behind but if it was so fractured by PC infighting no wonder they couldn't organise anything.

Generalisations. Not everyone did that. it makes it seem as all women & minorities did that but why am I surprised. It comes from 4chan. I'm sure there were other white people who didn't want to follow anyone & turn into anarchists but they don't get mentioned because it derails the whole purpose of that post. It has good points but seems like a targeted delivery of the message.
