Summary: Erectile dysfunction is a cardiovascular disease. Routine consumption of saturated fats/dietary cholesterol raise blood LDL cholesterol levels. High LDL cholesterol levels cause atherosclerotic plaque build up in your arteries- including your penile arteries. When these arteries are full of plaque, vasodilation is substantially reduced and can result in difficulty getting or maintaining erections.

Body: Hello red pill men. Many of you may struggle with erectile dysfunction, and whether it's in front of your wife, a plate, or a random ONS.. it can have a very emasculating effect and ruin a good night of fun. Lucky for you, I have a method to improve the quality of your erections: and it's totally in your control.

Diet is rarely brought up when discussing erectile dysfunction which is odd. Erectile dysfunction is caused by, well, dysfunction in the arteries supplying your penis with blood. This makes it a cardiovascular issue, and like other cardiovascular issues it can be treated directly and immediately with diet. I'm talking within a few weeks here.

The Science: We've known for some time now that those with ED also tend to suffer from cardiovascular issues more frequently than a control group. (source) http://www.jsm.jsexmed.org/article/S1743-6095(15)33542-6/abstract (/) ED can be seen as a predictor of cardiovascular disease, and this makes sense. The arteries in your penis are about half the size of the coronary arteries in your heart, so your penile arteries will become dysfunctional as a result of atherosclerotic plaque much more quickly than the coronary arteries. But.. What causes atherosclerotic plaque?

Atherosclerotic plaque has multiple contributing factors. However, only one of these factors is necessary for the formation of actual plaque. This factor is: hypercholesterolemia. High LDL cholesterol levels in the blood are the ONLY necessary risk factor for plaque formations. This essentially means you could hypothetically max out all your other risk factors (smoking, sedentary life style, stress, etc) but none of them will cause plaque if your LDL levels are around 70mg/dl.

Treatment: A meta-analysis of 395 metabolic ward studies found that decreased dietary cholesterol intake and decreased saturated fat intake will lower LDL levels accordingly. Eat less cholesterol, less cholesterol in your blood. Once your LDL cholesterol levels are lowered, meaning you are no longer feeding plaque formations with more cholesterol, your body will naturally dissolve the existing formations. This not only reverses coronary artery disease, it reverses erectile dysfunction, too.

Conclusion: Diets high in sources of saturated fat and cholesterol will increase your likelihood of developing ED. If you have ED, lowering your intake of these products will significantly increase arterial function and result in better, harder erections. A diet high in fiber and healthy plant fats is optimal for human cardiovascular health. I recommend basing your diet off of whole foods- whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, fruits, vegetables, etc. Not only will these drastically reverse the atherosclerotic plaque formations in your body, the additional intake of nitric oxide and other antioxidants will make your arteries naturally vasodilate much better. To make sure you don't run into fat-soluble vitamin absorption issues, get at least 30% of your daily calories from an unsaturated fat plant source. For protein, aim for .6-.75 grams per pound of body weight if you are weight lifting. If you are not weightlifting- start weightlifting.
