I find it very refreshing and enlightening in general to finally be able to identify the silly stories we tell ourselves through out day to day lives, which ultimately forms this ego of ours.
My growth as a Man jumped to a whole new level ever since I gained this self-awareness. I knew that my actions had consequences. I finally understood the psychological consequences of procrastination, for example. A man that procrastinates all the time sends certain messages to the brain... one of them, being that you were unable to do X. So in the future, you're less likely to attempt Y because you successfully procrastinated X, if that makes any sense.
I'd say my brain's been my biggest enemy for as long as I can remember, sabotaging me ever since grade school... but that's only because I didn't understand its mechanisms. We're now sorta friends tbh.

How did you beat procrastination???

internal self discipline. For example, I have to get 3 hours of studying in today and then go workout and then go to work. I tell myself these things have to be done, and in my mind I tell myself " stop being a bitch and just get this shit done, we have other stuff to do"
I recognize my body is being a pussy and doesn't want to go workout because I will be tired later, but by recognizing this reason and then telling myself internally no we are going to go workout-dosnt matter what you feel. I get it done.
Its weird man, it took a process to become this disciplined, but it is something you have to tackle everyday. Soon it will become routine.

Tell yourself to do it right now. Discipline.

Yeah I noticed my dad is like that! It's all right now or nothing. I wish I could be but I don't know how to.
[–]happyrpwoman 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yes you do. Just do it. There's no magic motivation formula. Discipline just means getting after it day in and day out whether you want to or not. "I don't know how" is a cop out and a lie.

On some things I do, like working out, but some other stuff, like paperwork, I put off forever and I get in trouble because of it.
[–]AssRapeNoHomo0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The "I don't know how" is a lie you've begun to believe. It always takes the first step to walk. Don't put yourself down if you're not doing I fast enough. Soon you'll be running.

I second this.
How in the fuck?

Coming into contact with something like TRP will for most people lead to some form of identity crisis. That is, if someone is willing to take this information to heart, thus destroying a large chunk of their beliefs (about themselves) and ways of perceiving the world.
The glasses you wear in daily life change colour - probably less happy colours and less optic illusions, but your perception get's better. So does your behaviour if you follow through, which now is more based on truths, rather than mass hypnosis.
The real question is: Are you willing to set your ego and pride aside to benefit the learning process? Holding onto certain ideas about yourself, which work against the change - this is where most people slip. The biggest fear most people have is not death, it's the fear of change.
You have to be willing to reflect upon your previous identity and behaviours, while throwing away what doesn't work and not looking back anymore. Easier said than done, old habits die hard. Needing a strong new reference point to base your new identity on? It's one of the reasons to visit this forum daily.
The thing I do notice here: a lot of anger on here, from those that are swallowing the red pill, comes from a place of pride. Pride is a good emotion if not overdone, but women know all too well how to use it against you, if you show too much of it. Pride is very much tied to ego and identity, but being able to swallow pride is necessery to let go of your previous self.

How do you feel this fits with the RP idea that a man should be "on a mission" and the concept of maintaining frame? Do you not think that deliberately eschewing a sense of consistent identity makes both of the above difficult?
For the record, I don't entirely disagree with you here but I'm curious how you expand your argument with reference to those two points. Also, have you ever read any Taoist literature? It expresses a lot of similar ideas to those present in your post.
I'm of the opinion these days that both eastern-style Taoist/Buddhist philosophy and ancient western Stoicism are viable RP male philosophies, but reconciling the two is an interesting intellectual challenge.
[–]remember13[S] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I am actually a disciple of the Tao. I am not saying that you shouldn't be on a mission or not to hold frame. These are basically actions: holding frame is a response, a reflex to a shit test and the mission is one big action. Also, I am not saying that one should forsake his identity, I am saying that holding to what you think is your identity for the sake of it can be an unnecessary burden.
[–]friendlysociopathic1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Same, actually - what led you to it? Explains the convergent thought style at least.
I would argue that holding frame is fundamentally (if done right) NOT reflexive at all - it's actually demonstrating a LACK of reflexive response and demonstrating that she can't shake your views. Personally I've found that living in a state of Wu Wei is essentially holding a perfect frame at all times.

Got Identity?
First it was Transsexual.
Next it was Transracial.
After that people are talking about Transhuman.
What about TransBrocolli ?
People who wish they were a vegetable.
Imagine the conversation:
TB: "From now on I want everyone to see me as a TransBroccoli."
Oppressor: "But you are human, you can't be Broccoli."
TB: "You must hate Broccoli."
Oppressor: "No, I just live in reality and you are human, not a vegetable."
TB: "Oppressor."

I disagree. A man with no identity is not human. You have to have some identity, personality, w/e. You must have a comfort zone. Not being able to relax for 1 second in whole life is impossible. You recharge your batteries.
But having comfort zone doesn't restrict you from going out of it for a while. Here on TRP we even say that saying "I am not that kinda guy: I can't do paragliding, I am accountant for fuck's sake." is wrong. You must get out of your comfort zone, and you must have one in the first place.

Thanks for that great quote man, heres another than really hits for me: "What lies in front of us and what lies behind us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."

Reading this post, I thought, "yes, there's something to this." Then reading the comments refuting it I thought, "indeed, it's crap."
It's almost like paper, rock, scissors, where each thought is destroyed by the next. Be yourself without being yourself?

This is undeniably wrong, and legitimately backwards. It is borderline insidious in nature, undermining some of the fundamental aspects of being a man.
Being a man, a real, no-shit Man, is ALL about identity. It is about self-improvement, world-improvement, and deep-seated pride in one's accomplishments. It is about building yourself into that island, becoming the one that other people can, and should, look up to. It is about creating, becoming and maintaining the identity that every woman wants and every man wants to be. To know one's self, and be comfortable and proud of that identity, is kinda the entire point.
Blowing off one's identity is akin to giving up. It is forsaking responsibility and accountability at the very core of your character. TRP, as an informative and great first step on the long road to becoming a man, is markedly AGAINST the ideals of losing sight of one's identity. No where here, a place portraying positive guidance for men, should anyone be praised for an "ability" to ignore their own accountability and forsake their responsibilities.
Your post makes a little bit of sense, insofar as it is the very beginning for someone who never started off on a path of self-improvement. Your identity CAN hold you back. You can be a shitty person, with hang-ups and problems, fears and insecurities. It can be, potentially, helpful to crush those negative aspects of yourself, and rebuild yourself in the image of the Man you want to be; To honestly take stock of yourself, be responsible to the ideals you hold dear, and be accountable to yourself for the things you want to accomplish. But the path of a Man will NEVER be one of the ostrich, sticking their head in the sand in regards to their self. Especially on the grounds that their identity is one they do not like and respect and that it is "holding them back."
In short: there is a word for people who have no/little concept of self and refuse to take account/responsibility for the effects their actions have on their identity - women. Be the man you want to be.

I think OP is talking from the perspective of the identities the more recent generations have developed from an emasculated society. Pre-Red pill identities. Nowhere does OP suggest completely stripping away ones identity and running amok, and without purpose. Without-a-doubt; Identity is purpose But identity is also our largest enemy. It can consume us.
Forging an identity that accumulates wealth, attracts bitches, earns respect, and brims with knowledge is something that is affirmatively concurrent with male biology, but has been restricted by identity-impressions left by an often confusing and damaging youth.

I'm not sure real men accept external definitions for what they should be doing and who they should be.
[–]EGOtyst0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago [recovered] (0 children) | Copy Link
It is merely a nice perk. As I said multiple times: be the man you want to be.
