It’s 2021. Nobody picks a restaurant without googling the menu and prices anymore. He knew it and invited you out anyway. He’s trying to make you feel indebted to him but you’re a smart FDS cookie and that shit don’t work on you.

Red Flag. His finances are not your problem. He probably said that about the cocktails to keep you from ordering one! It’s not really about the cost, it’s about controlling your perception of it. Lowering the standards. Time to move on, this man is not the one.

Your gut knows it, this is a red flag. He's basically:

1) Being cheap. Scrote doesn't want to pay to court yo, AKA you're not worth his actual effort.

2) Making you feel self-conscious about the money he has to "spend" on you. Basically manipulating you into feeling guilty and bad for "forcing" him to do that.

3) Making you aware of the money he's "spending on you" so you feel indebted, like tallwomenneedlovetoo said.

He's already showing you he's cheap and you're not worth his money (aka his effort) in the first few dates, this is hard proof that if he got in a relationship, he'll be too cheap to treat you to dates, gifts and his time, emotions and attention.

i went out on a date with an OLD guy that "wanted a relationship" so much he later complained that I bought 4 expensive $15 shots that he had to pay for in a joking manner. we kept texting but he wasn't eager to invite me on 2nd date and was getting too sexual with shirtless pics. After I told him to drop it he repeated the joke and I got annoyed and asked him if he needs me to send him money back so he will finally shut it.

He got offended and told me he just wanted to get laid and didn't actually plan on spending that much and that I'm a bitch. And blocked me.

Usually cheap men are controlling. If he’s that controlling over his finances when it comes to women, imagine how that will bleed into other parts of the relationship.
