Whoa whoa. That is the Blue Pill narrative right there, and is most likely FALSE. It might be true if these evens unfolded in 40s-60s (assuming USA), but probably not later. DO NOT BUY into this narrative, as it does not work anymore.

The whole idea that "pursuing shows lack of abundance, but lack of pursuing means close to zero opportunities" is likely the main reason why PUA were developed. This is solved by a) pursuing b) showing that you do have other options :) That's what the whole PUA-related advice on TRP is about. You both pursue (escalating physically as soon as possible to get her lust response) and practice dread and abundance mentality to pass/prevent shit tests.

If your SMV is high enough, you start getting attention from women, but I'm not sure how applicable this is to you.

If it's part of a flirtatious dynamic it can work, I.e., she participates in the chase in some way (even by just not being a bitch or letting you talk to her alone).

The older stories you hear are because courtship was different then and often the women acted disinterested as to not seem easy. Here in Asia if you want a legit 'good girl' you're going to have to get through some layers, even the act of dating has social implications for her so she will want to be 'friends' first and the sex accidentally happens sometime later. I imagine this is how it was back in the day.

You do have to show a girl you want her, but not overtly. You do this by flirting, body language, and push/pull.

At the same time you need to be outcome independent. That means you will be unaffected if you don't get her (presumably because you have other options).

It depends on how you persist. Chateau Heartise has a good article that I can't find right now on my pone about this topic. Basically, when you persist, you make your intentions clear, and don't validate her or hear about her problems. Instead you just banter with her, and try to escalate psychically with her. You sort of just assume the sale. If she rejects you or your advances, you say something along the lines of: "don't act like you don't want me" and smirk.

Such persistence is indeed quite attractive, when not coupled with a crippling blue-pill oneitis.

If that's how you want to go about it, then make sure you treat all eligible women the same. No single woman is that special to you, you're persistent with them all in the same exact devil-may-care way. Also, once you get the one you wanted, continue to keep it up with the others and get them also.

Persistence could come across as desperate and needy.

At the same time sometimes attraction is intimidating to a woman and she may move away not because she is not attracted but because she can not handle how attracted she is.

Soft non threatening persistance could give her space to cope with her feelings of overwhelming attraction.

Watch for annoyance or irritation which may indicate lack of attraction.
