Last night I was at a Halloween party with my wife. Other than asking me to dance to stupid songs, she was great!

However, I got drawn into a conversation about male children wanting to paint their nails when they see mommy and female siblings with painted nails. The conversation was between me, another dad, and a female friend of my wife's who is a mom. They're both nice.

When I said that that's not happening with my son she asked what I was gonna do when I had daughters and he saw their mom painting their nails etc and then he would want it.

In my head, my response was supposed to be something like this: "Well I'll just make him feel like he's in some sort of exclusive boys only club and the mark of distinction is no painted nails." Pretty good, right?

HOWEVER, what came out of my mouth was "wellllll, I'll just tell him he's better than her and that's why he doesn't paint his nails". She seemed a bit miffed and almost immediately found a reason to talk to someone else.

Admittedly my brain-to-speech mechanism failed miserably, probably partly because I'm not used to having to justify myself to people (I work alone at work, with very little oversight).

I've had "oh god why" rage comics going through my mind since then, because she's my wife's friend, we go to church together etc.

I thought this morning I should text her and just say that didn't come out right sorry, but I'm working hard to implement TRP in all aspects of my life that I can, so how should I proceed?
