So I've been lifting about 3 days a week as my schedule allows. I'm planning on joining up in Muay Thai because I want to learn how to fight. The place my buddy trains at does a fair amount of cardio, but certainly spends a lot of time hitting bags (only occasional sparring for beginners).
TRP always talks about the benefits of lifting. Seems to me if I have to cut back on lifting due to time constraints, but I fill the time with martial arts, it would be okay, but I was hoping to hear some of your thoughts.

Sorry to burst your bubble but fighters only lift weights in movies. Combat sports are technique/anaerobic sport, no one cares how much you bench or squat. Weight lifting is not essential at all.

Sorry to burst your bubble but you're a fool if you don't think the top Ufc fighters aren't lifting at all.

What's learning Muay Thai been like for you?
Most people recommend learning BJJ, but Muay Thai seems more agressive.

There is no evidence that improving relative strength is beneficial for combat sports.

same.
I'll post any if I find. But from experience I have never seen good boxers lifting weights.

That last statement you make is pretty much why I want to fuck with Muay Thai.
