Obesity and a sedentary lifestyle

[–]futianze12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. Sedentary lifestyles are linked with high cortisol secretion. Supplement with zinc if you have a job where you sit on your ass for 8 hours a day. It certainly helped me.

[–]purplefidgetmidget9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely this so much.

I went to the pub earlier for food and the options are all 600-1000 calories, almost all of them are ("Add chips: 600 cal"). Obviously you're not gonna have just a burger on its own, you're gonna have burger+chips. So that's like 1400 calories+

Staggering how that's considered a normal meal, and it's mostly carbs.

I opted for chicken burger (breast), doubled up, no bun, salad instead of chips (no dressing) with extra bacon and cheese on top. Yum. Came in around ~650 total, no carbs, only gainz

Fat, lazy and Eat shit food.

Crazy conspiracy post incoming. I think it’s linked to water and food. Our municipal water is hampered with micro plastics (which no one is ready to admit may be or may not be more harmful than we imagined - likely because it would be costly and there is no direct solution), and pharmaceutical drugs (such as antidepressants which have no way of being filtered out currently). Not to mention all the shit they spray on meats and packaged foods that they’re not required to tell you about. For instance meat gets sprayed with ammonia and sometimes is pumped with CO2 to make it more pink, high fructose corn syrup uses trace amounts of arsenic to separate the sugars. I think there is a serious issue here, there is a significant rise in autism and low T but no one is doing anything about it.

[–]Herdsengineers14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm actually an engineer that does water and wastewater treatment work. The issue with micro plastics and pharmaceuticals is real. There's no way developed yet in the water treatment industry to remove them from both water incoming to the potable systems, as well as on the wastewater side there's also no good way developed to remove them from wastewater before it's discharged back to the environment.

The solution is to get the populace to quit taking so many fucking drugs but that's a different issue.

As for the health quality of foods we get served these days, I make a point to spend the money on the "organic" stuff and also shop from local farmer's markets and other local sources simply to stay away from food that has been through the large commercial treatment process. It's expensive, but worth it to me.

I also took up hunting and gardening to supplement my food. Deer, wild hog, and wild turkey are mighty tasty, you get to unplug and spend some quality quiet time outdoors, the adrenaline rush of a kill is better than the best sex I've ever had, and you can't get any more "organic" and "free range" than food you grew or killed in the wild and dressed yourself.

As for water - the pitchers you can buy that have the built in filters, some are actually helpful for taking out the stuff we can't take out in the treatment plants at the moment. Not all, most are crap, but a few are actually effective.

[–]rcwhitaker7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

could you recommend an effective built in filter?

[–]ATrashMan3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

need to know which water filters please

[–]Gainznsuch3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Tell us which filters man!

[–]Herdsengineers2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Anything that is NSF 53 rated. There is another rating, NSF 42 - but that's only for aesthetics, not for health. If there's not rating at all, consider it totally worthless.

Pitcher filters, or even filters fitted to fridge water lines, etc. - if they've been tested and rated, they will have it listed on the label somewhere.

[–]postadolescent8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Unfortunately I this is the most likely answer...even though it's a vague and unclear answer. I think we need to investigate these other potential causes further. the easiest answer for everyone here is to simply say diet and exercise bro, so they completely disregard any other explanation. I'm 31, 5'9", 180lbs, ~18 bf and have got my most recent labs back with a T level of around 200 nmol/L. I eat extremely well, exercise regularly and am constantly trying to naturally increase test, but my levels are that of a fucking 80 year old. Obviously anecdotally something's wrong here and maybe I just have a medical condition that can be explained by some other means... but maybe not.

[–]RedSkeller1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We're pretty much the same person physically, I just never got around to getting my t levels checked.

[–]OmerShah00 1 points1 points1 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Did your doctor write you a prescription for something to help get the T levels back up?

[–]postadolescent0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not yet unfortunately. It usually takes a long time to see a specialist in Canada, so I'm currently waiting to get an appointment.

[–]_quote6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm backing you on this one. I grew up in Connecticut, one of the only 2 states that does not allow wastewater back into the drinking supply. CT water has a few carcinogens, but nothing that lowers testosterone. Explains how I suffered negative effects when I moved to NYC but then it resolved when I moved back. New yorkers look different, you can tell their hormones are all messed up.

Check out my sources:

NYC hasn't been tested for pharmaceuticals, but the reservoirs that lead to the city may be contaminated https://www.salon.com/2013/03/14/your_tap_water_is_probably_laced_with_anti_depressants_partner/

Connecticut prohibits wastewater treatment plants from discharging in a public water supply area https://www.nhregister.com/opinion/article/Forum-The-real-truth-about-tap-water-in-12720101.php

[–]Gainznsuch0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Not to mention there is hexane in a lot of edible oils. It's used to extract oil from seeds and vegetables, but it also is shown to effect the testes in studies done on rats. It'd teratogenic.

[–]Rp9970 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What is the solution then? Bottled water instead of tap? Eating whole foods mainly?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i mean if they’re turning the frogs gay with chemicals in the water then why not humans

[–]VikkBlack0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

What do you mean undersexed? Sexually depraved?

[–]Corvus_Uraneus0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Deprived

[–]DayGameChirality-1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What?

[–]mrHappyPotatoe4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

internet porn.

[–]showerdudes91 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is by far the number one reason.

[–]1Tarmyniatur2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Diet and activity levels, in short.

Lack of exercise and high %bodyfat level - not necessarily in overweight and obese individuals but skinny also.

Lack of micronutrients in foods - especially dairy, cereals and fast food along with sugar consumption. Vitamin and mineral deficiency has a massive effect on quality of life - you get common colds and allergies, various immune responses like acnee and inflamation, digestion issues.

Alcohol and other poisons that take priority over normal body functions.

[–]GuitarHero072 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The average male is far less fit than he was just a few decades ago. The main reasons are poor diet and lack of physical activity. There are much higher rates of obesity and diabetes compared to before. The majority of American adults are overweight and there is also an alarmingly high rate of childhood obesity. All of these factors lead to lower average testosterone levels.

[–]calm_boy2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Incessant jerking off to porn has got anything to do with it?

[–]Wrath_of_Trump2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The lifestyle no longer necessitates heavy testosterone. People don't even get into fights anymore but on rare occasions.

[–]Zebleblic1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm in an elementary school and I've yet to see a fist fight in over a year of being here.

[–]cirrusice2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm afraid to even reply to this, which explains a lot

[–]showerdudes90 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Im afraid for even have read your comment about being afraid to reply

[–]RaughKee1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is one of the main reasons TRP advises you to lift. Not only are you increasing your confidence and SMV, you're losing body fat and gaining muscle mass which increases Test production. Higher Test levels motivate you to approach more and escalate.

[–]Zanford0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Obesity

Stress

Sedentary lifestyle

Lack of exercise, team sports, or masculine activities

Submissive social conditioning (government schools teaching boys to be passive little drones)

Plastics

Birth control pills in the water (mostly via women's urine...yep)

We're even seeing these effects in other animals, and it's devastating to some amphibian populations. There is def something 'in the water'.

Amazingly, it's the one pollution issue that the political Cultural Marxist Left does not seem to care about. Interesting, isn't it?

[–]Mr_Badass 1 points1 points1 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Spread of the parasite Taxoplasmosis from owning cats is lowering test levels. There is evidence that taxoplasmosis makes humans have less aggression and more nuturing. Also men who live a hikkomori lifesyle ,(stay in room all day), use cats for companionship as a replacement for approaching women. I believe there exists a colleration between the current beta culture and the expolsion of cat ownership and cat memes. People used to own dogs or birds and in the 1990s cat ownership exploded.
