Depression can be a highly biological ailment stemming from both genetics and health. I would disagree with the statement that being depressed is just you "being a pussy" because you can't necessarily just change your mentality to non-pussy and cure yourself.

TRP view would be to workout consistently, meditate often, and eat good, nutritionally dense foods. Doing cardiovascular exercise will stimulate the release of endorphins, thus alleviating some depression symtoms. Speaking from personal experience, my journey from depressed to happy wasn't an overnight change, but a journey that lasted quite a few years.

Like anything in life, correcting your mental state isn't easy. With dedication and patience you will heal your mind and body.

Science time: Depression is complex to deal with, drugs tend to have about a 30-50% efficacy rate because the brain is rather complex and the techniques of diagnosis are lacking. Exercise. It's a shock-concoction of numerous changes to your mind and body in several domains and why you will see it repeated over and over. TRP prefers weightlifting - a book called Starting Strength and /r/weightroom are the places to go.
/r/nootropics. Depression has neurodegenerative properties. The racetams should be of most interest to you, alongside other compounds.
Sleep better. See above resource, read up on the effects of light on our circadian rhythm and implement changes to your lifestyle accordingly.
Mindfulness meditation. Helps with sleep if done before bed due to melatonin increase in levels, increases brain matter in pre-frontal lobe of the brain hence your ability to focus, and will help you to identify and be aware of neurotic trains of thought thus being able to disconnect from them before they damage your well-being any further. It has also been implicated in being one of the best forms of treatment to depression, particularly those which are treatment-resistant, and trumps Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (Google Scholar is your friend for citations).
Understand how motivation works. Click here to go to a ~4:30 Youtube video with scientific resources to back their propositions. The biggest take-away would be to focus on one goal at a time, no matter how small, benign or ridiculous that goal might seem. Success begets success, a concept which depression removes from the human being.
Optionally, if you have a scientific curiosity, understand how depression works and the cognitive mechanisms associated with it and by extension, how emotions work. An interesting finding to postulate over is that depressed individuals tend to ruminate a lot despite poor effects on well-being. One piece from the literature found that this was due to individuals perceiving superior control of the reality that they were living in, giving them the illusion of mastery.

TRP + depression is a steeper up-hill battle compared to other users. Do not be discouraged by the success of others or deluded by the bigotry flexed by "veterans". Surround yourself with constructive, positive influences if possible (and if not, then find solace in the solitude of the lone-wolf style of living) and focus on the present. You will fail; take it as an opportunity to learn and build stoicism, instead of disheartening you, causing you to likely seek sources of gratification.

This will be a long, painful battle spanning years. But when properly equipped and ready to engage, perhaps we don't need to endlessly suffer from the damage depression inflicts on ourselves.

Try to avoid SSRIs. Instead, learn to use cognitive behavioral therapy on yourself. The book "Overcoming depression" by Paul Gilbert is supposed to be a good one, but it requires effort.

I suggest reading Feeling Good by Dr. David Burns. A very Red Pill book. Do all of the exercises every day for 6 months.

I'm coming from a similar background, and there is a lot of good advice posted on here. To summarize: Lifting is extremely beneficial, for reasons posted. I found finding the motivation to go to the gym came from will power and using the word discipline. Reading books to understand your feelings is a great way to process the irrational thoughts you may be having. The advice I received from one of my male friends about pills is that they're a crutch, just like if you had a broken leg and needed support until you healed.

The biggest change I made was making sure I got 8 hours sleep a night. When you sleep 5 hours a night everything is harder.

The most red pill way to deal with depression would be to consistently make good choices even while being depressed. I know depression makes that harder but it's necessary. Willpower conquers all.

Everyone's going to give the same advice. Either you're just being a pussy, looking for an excuse and/or your lifestyle sucks (diet, exercise, social, laziness) or you need professional help. So fix your lifestyle and power through or place a call.
