I've already written a bit about this but I had to put up with some real retarded shit. Basically a "7" is the nice answer. No one wants to be average but any higher and you risk people thinking you're lying. Basically, a 7 is "you're not ugly but you're not so obviously good looking that I'm going to say it". Essentially you're decent. If people consistently tell you you're an 8 or above, you are actually good looking. I have never been called a 7, I am normally called an 8 or more in looks by legitimately good looking people.

An average should be a 5. But people perceive 7 as the average and hence a 6 as terrible. Human estimation is a weird thing.

I just assume that someone is a 5, and then add points for good things I care for, like good face, nice body, amazing hair, good personality etc, or deduct points when those things are bad.

A 9 is a rare occurrence. Must be a model with an amazing personality.

Nobody hits a 10. Nobody.

Could be that men work on their appearance until they reach what is a 7 in their mind. Better than average, but not spending the time and money to become a model.

More likely I think it has to do with men paying more attention to women's attractiveness than other mens', so there's less to compare to.

Maybe a combination of both.

Maybe 100% of the population really is more attractive than average. We see this phenomena in people rating their work performance and intelligence too.
