False dilemma because in order to be authentic you have to be confident to dare presenting your true self, and most people don’t have the confidence to do that.

In my own experience you want to be assertive and confident at the start, and then as you build a relationship slowly show more of your personality (not too much or too fast to lose mystery but your more authentic side will come out). Many girls, specially those more immature, will distance themselves from you at this point. That's when you let them go and move on to the next, no big deal.

a balance of the two is ideal because it really depends on the woman and what you're more comfortable being.

if you are naturally authentic and open about flaws, follow that. same for confident and secure. if either one is not u, it will feel inauthentic and fall thru.

You can’t just keep being ‘authentic’ and hope someone will like you exactly as you are. You have to adapt along the way, dance to the music that’s playing.... as Bruce Lee said: "be like water". If you’re a chef and you love making beef soup, but people don’t order beef soup, you’ll go bankrupt if you keep cooking only that... you need to make changes.

When it comes to confidence, you only need enough to say ‘hi’. You don’t need crazy confidence, there’s no point. Too much of it actually looks bad.

You need a bit of everything. Too much is just as bad as too little. If you look at it this way, you’ll end up doing things that are pleasant for other people (this is mandatory) while still doing other things that you like (this is your personality). You’ll see that you can’t always do or say whatever you want, sometimes you have to take the other person into consideration too... that's how you realize that "authetic or confident" is just noice... a fluff talk.
