I have to type this out quick. I have to leave soon. On the bus today, I thought of what should be a great opener to any HBs that sit next to you. Casually lean in and say,

"You can always tell the new readers from the old"

She responds, "How's that?"

"Humans communicate 80% of the time without saying a single world. See that lady over there? She's crouched forward, feet inclined, arms crisscrossed across her torso. She hasn't said anything to anyone on this ride, yet I'm willing to bet this is her first ride on a bus."

"Wow. So you're just reading body language?"

"It's more than that. Millions of years ago, we developed a freeze, flight, or fight mechanism, that stuck in our limbic system. We may not longer be in Africa, but on a bus, the limbic system tells her that there's danger, in which case she must protect herself."
