Contradiction in Models? Mark Manson claims that you can’t be needy, but advocates being nervous and doing it anyway. Don’t these ideas run against each other?

While Mark Manson contradicts himself a lot, i don't think here it's a matter of contradiction.

Having a fear and doing it anyway is literally the definition of courage. Being courageous is not the same as being needy of course.

Needy is when, without good reason, you accept the other's person point of view as more valid than your own. Being needy is giving someone more than they give back.

There would be a contradiction if wanting her would automatically mean, that you are needy. But if that were the case, meeting women as a whole would become impossible.

Being needy just means, that you want her at all costs or for too high price, that you are unable to put her or women in general into perspective.

Yeah I don’t see the contradiction at all. Remember this is all in your head and how you are interacting with girls. Just doing it anyway is building the confidence and belief in yourself to truly not be needy. You can’t just wake up one day and no longer be needy. It takes practice. Don’t approach a girl and buy her a drink and shower her with compliments and beg for her number. If you’re too scared to even introduce yourself then you have already lost and you should do it anyway

Being needy means you can’t live without something or someone in this case the girl. And that as such, you must have her no matter the cost.

Being nervous doesn’t make you needy, nervous has to do with feeling anxious or worried about how something might affect you.

You can be worried about your self-esteem if you get rejected but needy means that you desperate to get the girl, and as such will try hard to get her, you will do a lot of shit that you wouldn’t do for other people to get her, you will continuously call her and insisto when she is ignoring you or has already told you she isn’t interested.

You can be nervous and accept a rejection if it happens, but if you keep insisting after the rejection that’s when you act needy. If you keep insisting when she isn’t responding that’s needy.

I don't see a contradiction. I have found since I have worked on my neediness issues I have had a LOT less approach anxiety. I really don't have a lot of fear talking to women I find interesting. Escalating and closing...well, still working on it.

What I really like about Manson's work is where he talks about "what do I say?" and how it really doesn't matter. And how sitting around thinking of "openers" is in and of itself needy behavior.

Being nervous is not being needy, it's being nervous.

Needy means your emotions are dependent on whether or not you are accepted by others.

Nervousness means you're unsure about yourself.

You can be nervous giving a presentation. You can be nervous driving through a snowstorm.

Man, every single time I see someone mention this book, they have nothing but praise for it. For me horewer, the book changed absolutely nothing. I must be reading it wrong, because otherwise I have no idea what happened.
