Think of it as a "no"
Anything other than a solid yes is a no.

This is soo wrong. You'll miss out on so many opportunities with this attitude, especially with higher quality women. If you're just looking for a quick hookup this is true, for everything else a little persistence can do wonders.
Persistence is not immediately neediness.

Persistence is key yes. But a vague “I’ll get back to you” with no option to reschedule or date to choose from is as good as a “no”.
Don’t waste your time chasing someone who doesn’t value you

Your "study date" was obviously like a normal regular date. If you now set things for the "real" date, she may feel pressure to reciprocate to your romantic advances there. These are not proper dynamics, she got pretty defensive about it. I would suggest to forget about that way, make one step backwards and continue naturally from the point that you were interacting. Now it's mainly up to her to adjust to this new potential context of yours.

Good idea, just go back to the way it was, but now that she knows I want more with her I’m leaving the door open for her to do more with me/ get closer?

Well, maybe she will break the contact or maybe she will gradually get affectionate towards you. Point is not to force anything and not to chase her. Just do what you were doing with her that was working and you enjoyed it. Maybe some opportunity will surface in near future by itself.

She said she’s not ready but would love to keep hanging out with me, but we all know if the right guy came into her life she’d be ready, either way I consider this a loss, friendzoned.

She wanted to talk with you later that day. So did you call her later that day? No. You called her the next day. Why? This probably pissed her off.
She actually texted me instead of calling so I just saved the call for another day

Learn the “Fuck Yes or No” principal.

Why did you call her the next day?
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You filled your role. You provided her someone to talk with and listen to. She might’ve had some attraction but likely not enough.

Reading between the lines, you described her as nervous. You may be coming on a little too strong for her. Probably better to be indirect with someone like that, at least in the beginning. Like just invite her to lunch or something without calling it a date.

No

I actually use this line all the time on people myself. And it’s a genuine thing if I don’t know what my work/school responsibilities will be, and if I’ll have enough time to fit you in and do nothing for a few hours.
But everyone is different.

Eh?
I guess this is one of your first few ventures with girls and you may take what people say literally. Look man, yes there are nuanced situations and this one may have a very slight chance that she will “think about it later and get back to you”. But 9/10 times when someone says that, it’s just an indirect way of rejecting someone without any form of confrontation.
Most women are not usually comfortable with rejecting someone because they are acutely aware of how one feels when being rejected OR they are acutely aware of the reaction most guys give off and don’t want to deal with it. Depends on the woman and their experience in what dictates their actions in how they reject people.
Either way, indirect forms of rejection are just part of the game, and having any form of hope just hurts you more, even if there is a slight chance. Just confront the situation and firmly assume that she didn’t want to actually go on a date with you, and in the moment just said that to not deal with any bad reaction.
This always leads to better results and getting up quickly. “Surprises are always better than getting what you expected.” If you understand that, then you know better.
