This industry taught guys to do some unusual and unnatural shit like "clever" openers - it doesn't mean shit - in fact it actually hurts you in multiple ways:
It makes you really really weird.
It makes things harder for you because you do unnatural things.
You said "hi" probably a million times in your lifetime, you are comfortable with it...just say "hi" if you get a warm response, ask whats up/what are you doing - if the girl is warm and likes you she will give a pretty verbose answer which gives you so many avenues to carry the conversation on.

I think what a lot of guys here have been brainwashed into thinking is that women don’t know why you approached them so you have to do some fancy direct opener based on her clothing or some shit. They are not giving women nearly enough credit. They know why you approached them, they aren’t stupid. This idea that they got approached by some guy at a bar and they don’t have any idea what this interaction is about is laughably void of social awareness.
I have NEVER gotten a bad reaction from a “excuse me, hi how’s it goin, I’m (insert name)…” All it’s lead to is great conversations, number, dates, etc. It’s really quite simple yet people here are trying to reinvent the wheel because they’ve convinced themselves a simple “hi” and introductions won’t work.

Frankly as a guy who cold approached almost all girls who I've ever dated - I'm convinced that the cold approach has better 'yield' per hour spent than the social circle game or old for your average guy.
