You don’t need to go nuclear but you need to set boundaries.
“Sorry to hear about your mom. Hey. Time management is really important to me. In the future if you’re going to be late, let me know.”
That’s it.
If it happens again without her letting you know, she’s either testing, irresponsible and/or doesn’t value you.

Set boundaries, shit can happen. Good of her to take care of her mom. Just make sure she knows you don't accept her being late without a damned good reason. If she does, just walk. Plenty of other women who do respect your time.

She's not the problem. Why would sit there and wait 40 mins?

The question is a valid one you need to ask yourself. "Should the women I date value my time?" Yes. Absolutely. Your response should've been: OK, I understand you had an important situation to attend, but not sending me a text letting me know you'll be late tells me you do not respect me or my time. If it happens again, we cannot continue dating.
There. You've addressed the situation. Explained how her actions affected you and let her know that you will not tolerate that type of behavior, even if well-intentioned she totally disregarded politeness toward you. Here's the hard part: stick. to. your. guns. If it happens again, cut her off. Cold and decisive, walk away; she will never respect you.
Remember: you train people how to treat you. If you act like a doormat they will only walk all over you and complain that you're not flat enough.

Oh, OK, then I would care much, but it's just me

Let it go. If it’s a pattern you might want to reconsider how much you like her, because being consistently late is rude and inconsiderate.

Sounds like they don't care enough

If they're more than 15 min late without calling or communicating then I'll leave. If she doesn't apologize or show no respect for my time then I'll just move on.
That's mostly for the first few dates, but it's different if it's a girl I'm already seeing or sleeping with.

youve allready allocated a minimum of an hour to meet up with her. If that is a genuine excuse and you react in a hostile/negative way shes just going to think youre an insecure cuck boi. you can still leave the date at the allocated time you were going to leave. if she does it again then fair enough but unfortuantly her mother is more important to her than you

You dont address it, you just simply get up and leave. You gotta hold yourself to higher standards. If she took an hour to show up would you still wait there? I wait normally 15 no longer than 20 mins max and then I leave and do other things...my time is too valuable and the fact she's showing up that late obviously has no respect for your time...

Exactly. This shouldn't just apply to women you're dating but all relationships in your life including work relationships. I've even done this with meetings I was supposed to have with my manager and colleagues....

What if she was nervous 😬 I don’t think you don’t love yourself if you stay. I think you don’t love yourself if you stay and grow resentment or entitlement

Its your fault for waiting for 40 minutes. 15-20 minutes does it for me. I'll just up and leave. If she calls later asking where I was I'd just say "Sorry... I left". If she starts bitching about it just say "Well I was waiting there for about 20 minutes so I thought you wouldn't show up and left"

Never put yourself in a situation where you show up first. Before you leave ask them if they are on their way. If you DO happen to arrive first, look for an alternative location to spend your time at so you aren't waiting at the establishment aimlessly..

I used to show early to dates and they usually didn't go well. Then I started showing up late (not 40 mins) and magically I started to get laid more.

I don't mind being late, I'm almost always late around 15 minutes due to several reasons, what I hate is when people can't communicate that they'll be late. I'll wait for you, don't worry, I don't mind. We all have lives and stuff in our lives that can't always go as planned, but if you made plans and arrangements, then respect me and my time and tell me if you'll be late more than 10-15 minutes. Don't make me worry if anything happened to you or if you're even coming at all. If you make plans with people, inform them about your arrival time if you cannot arrive in the time you scheduled.

The reason is fine. Unless it's a pattern no reason to react. Definitely should've just up and left if there was no texts to update you.

She should’ve texted you the situation as soon as she knew she was gonna be late. Very inconsiderate/disrespectful to you!
