As a female, I think a guy has to be above average attractive in order to be successful on dating apps. This is my opinion based on hearing the experiences and of course swiping myself. I don’t think I would have swiped right on most of my exes, but in reality I didn’t find them unattractive. Granted, they weren’t models, but it didn’t really matter.
I can take a look at your profile if you want though.

I like to think I'm above average in real life xD but meanwhile I've received criticism of my photos from some guys in my DM's, not for bad looks, but for bad photogeny. Which makes sense I guess

It does, and it’s something I actually wanted to add after I had posted. Good pictures will take you far as long as you look clean and put together. They shouldn’t look as if you’ve gone to a photo studio (that would be weird) but just taken by someone with a good eye. My advice: have a female take them for you.

Doesn’t matter what YOU think it matters what potential matches think unfortunately. Without even seeing your profile I can tell you as a man dating apps aren’t really that good for meeting women. 1000x better off approaching in person

I disagree, I think it matters what I think and not other people. That's the definition of not seeking external approval. I tend to think that it's not lack of good looks, rather a poor profile that's causing bad results on Tinder.
However, I do agree that in person it's 1000x better. It's just that I want to do both in person and online dating

No it doesn’t matter if you think you’re the best musician in the world You won’t get a Grammy unless others think so too
Has nothing to do with external validation, maybe you think your attractive but women don’t.. Good to have self confidence but doesnt automatically mean your right
Tinder is 90% looks and 10% bio etc if you’re attractive as you say you’d at least have some matches

There are women in real life who think I'm attractive. My question was why it doesn't happen on Tinder. Meanwhile I've been constructively roasted by other guys in my DM's for an apparent lack of quality of my photogeny (not to be confused with bad looks), so that's an explanation.
Btw, just telling a guy through the internet that he isn't attractive, without having a look at him or his photos, isn't exactly what I would call good advice or even constructive criticism, but you do you.

Is this reliable info? Is it only for guys or females as well?
[–]MaltaPepe 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
dyor on r/tinder. its true. regarda women no idea
That makes sense tbh. Everytime I get back on Tinder I have some matches and likes in the first few hours, but then nothing happens.

I really do not recommend online dating apps unless you are a top 1-5 percent guy in terms of looks. Tall, chiseled, model-like face, preferably white. The type of guy where if you walk into a room eyes turn and women are drawn to you and flirt a lot openly with you even if you dont show much interest or havent said anything.
If you are not that type of guy, i do not recommend online dating. It will ruin your confidence, which is the most important thing from what i have seen for being successful offline. It may also make you depressed which can affect your daily life and productivity.
If you are confident you are in that upper echelon of looks then i highly recommend getting input from someone who looks like you and has success on online dating apps. You can model your profile off of theirs.
All the best dude
You're probably right bro. I'll leave the profile available for like 24 hours and if I don't get matches I'll uninstall it. Thanks

I highly do not recommend this, but if that is what you want to do go ahead. Just make sure to delete it before it starts to get to your head. I had a similar plan as you, and yeah that did not end well. I still have not recovered from my experience on there. Just be careful. I hope you find success on there, and if you do, know that it not you and that it is common for most guys to not have success on the apps. They are not designed for guys to succeed on there and very few guys do succeed. All the best.
I've never been bothered by lack of success in dating apps. I've been bothered by lack of success in dating life in general, which is far, far worse. So this can't really shake my confidence.
But this year I discovered seddit and other dating gurus, took responsibility for improving and am already getting better.
All the best to you too
