I’ve been looking around and it seems like this sub attracts people from all around the world. Good for that. However, I’ve noticed cultural differences are quite significant even within cities in certain countries. I’m wondering where (at least in the US) are people most receptive to being approached or even just open to social interaction?

For myself, I’ve mostly lived on the west coast of the US. I’m in San Francisco now and I find most women here are incredibly guarded. I understand why because I’ve had friends who ended up leaving and one of the reasons they left was due to all the catcalling, street harassment, and feeling like they couldn’t ever get time alone in any semi-public setting. (And in particular they felt like the people approaching them were incredibly cringey, angry, rude, and entitled) I know the SFBA has an incredibly lopsided male:female ratio for single straight folks from 18-35 but the culture makes it even worse for dating.

Obviously I never look homeless or anything when out and about (usually people assume I’m rich, went to Stanford, etc. - kinda cringey in itself unfortunately) but I’ve found this area very hard to approach folks at. I feel like I’m always on the wrong foot before it even starts. I know it’s mostly that if you suck where you live then you’ll suck anywhere - you’re the one who sucks not the place - but surely there are limits to this? So, begs the question for me - where is a good place to approach people?

I’m also aware of different expectations from approaches. Many of you want ONS, FWB, etc. I’m not really interested in that - so I’m more interested in folks who are more open overall to social interaction with strangers. I find SF to be incredibly closed off - only rivaled by Seattle. Again, my experience is limited but I have visited most major cities.
