Sounds like he may have used some NLP, when I coach I do the same thing. The way he approached you is also a pretty rote psychology trick, it's called the circle of control (we use it too, back handed compliments).

Basically he used the insult to disarm you and also broke you down. Then, with the compliments, he built you back up. The roller coaster of passion from dejection to acceptance makes you associate the good feelings you had with him, which makes you open up more. Then, as he's building you up, he touches you. These are anchors so that you associate these good feelings with his touch.

I don't want to try to pop holes in your experience because if you feel good it obviously added some value to your life. That said, it sounds like he put you down and then had you lapping out of his hand after giving you some praise.

It's incredibly presumptuous to think you know the hidden "authentic" self of a person after talking to them for a few minutes, especially when it comes from a "personal coach".

So that's how gay guys try to pick up straight dudes. This all but confirms it for me. A few weeks ago a dude was trying to say the same exact shit to me. I just stopped talking to the guy, but it made me realize that it's kind of on par with the same shit that we do to women.
