Tinder. Is. Terrible. A lot of these women have countless guys chatting them up, so being the one they choose is difficult, and you have a small window to prove yourself. Getting dates is more about luck. My best advice is to keep at it and you may come across someone to meet, but you'll be better off building your confidence and going for women irl.

Probably can't give you helpful advice but I honestly don't think Tinder is the best place for someone who is a virgin. You would have better luck doing literally anything else.

Appreciate it anyway. I'm pretty fed up with Tinder. I feel like the matching system/text interactions really impede my ability to learn how to interact with girls.
Unfortunately, I have no better options. I'm interning this summer at a place with no people who are in my age range, and I don't really participate in any other activities other than going to the gym 3-4x per week.
I guess I could cold approach?
[–]dankmemem883 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
For this summer: Yeah, cold approach if you can. Or even keep your headphones off at the gym and see what happens. Without a social circle it's hard. (For me at least).
Not saying not to use Tinder, it can't hurt your game. I just don't suggest it until you're experienced is that it's basically a hookup app and women have a pool of attractive and experienced guys on there to choose from. You will likely attract lower SMV women than you would in real life. Or when you do attract a hotter woman they will pick up on the fact that you are inexperienced (shit test) pretty quickly cut you off.

you're overthinking it. it's tinder so its pretty much not serious for anyone especially being a 20 year old college kid where no one is looking for a relationship over the summer on tinder. Ive gotten like 3 girls to hookup with like 300+ matches. go quick use your jokes, get the snap, try to set something up.

I am relatively new to Tinder. I have had two meet up dates in about 12 matches. I think it is important to move faster and act like her attraction to you is assumed because she matched you. Get off the site as soon as you can in your communications. Get to know her in person rather than trying to feel her out through text messages.

Lol dude I don’t get matches at all. I said fuck it and I had more success with face to face.
[–]hoready 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah Tinder really sucks in that way. I'm pretty sure I threw my best pictures into it and the algorithm still fucks me in the end.
You cold approach? If so, any advice for not seeming like a creep?
[–]hwarzenegger 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I've been cold approaching for a few months now and even though I haven't had great success with it, I think it's better than Tinder. In that, if you don't follow the 2 rules - be attractive, don't be unattractive, tinder isn't going to do much for you because a huge part of the game is having really great pictures and being very socially present.
I think cold-approaches [meeting people on streets/cafes/libraries] are a better way to build self-confidence and increases your ability to meet people and talk to them - this is more physically social.
Also, I'd suggest removing this stigma around being a virgin and calling your friends so as well. Who the fuck cares if you haven't fucked someone before?

Hey, thanks for the response.
I guess I rationalized including the virgin stuff because I thought it might give people a better understanding of my situation, but you're right that internally I have a massive chip on my shoulder about it.
Sometimes I just get frustrated and feel like there's something wrong with me because of how unsuccessful I am with girls. I'll admit on here, though I'd never say this in real life, that I felt like shit when one of my "less attractive" friends got laid recently because it highlights how badly I must be fucking up.
I probably sound like an asshole lmao
Anyway, I wouldn't really consider myself a shy person, but I'm a bit apprehensive about cold approaches. It seems like it would be very easy to come across as a creep. Any advice on how to pull this off without bothering anybody?

Someone just posted this hours ago a day or so ago.
The answer is the same.
// Like someone else said, that's just Tinder. // It goes through boom and bust periods. When it was new, it was getting use just based off of the novelty of it. // Then the app got flooded by hordes of desperate dudes who do things like open by asking if someone wants to fuck or sends a dick pic right away. Or another of any number of tone deaf things. // So it can be really hit or miss. Girls' inboxes get flooded with crap. And they get burned out and tune out.

19 year old virgin can't convert ~40 matches over 2 accts and a month of swiping into any actual dates. Any advice?
The advice is: delete it and work on socializing in person. Texting over Tinder isn't really game anyway. Even you got "good" at Tinder, you'd still have to game in person later. So you might as well deal with real people in person now.
Edited: it wasn't you who posted the first one. :)

Just wanted to point out that wasn't me, lol.

Edited to reflect that, thanks for bringing it to my attention.
It still doesn't change anything in the advice. You need to cut yourself some slack about Tinder. It's a weird thing.
Respect. Thanks for your time.

Just an fyi, the Tinder algorithm is fucked like that. Unless you pay, it's going to give you VERY good results/matches the first few days and then much lower.

You care too much. Tinder is best viewed as a bonus source of potential sex for you. It heavy skewed towards very attractive men with lots of experience and confidence.
Instead of using Tinder as a lifeline to pussy, consider it a playground for the real world. Try different things. Experiment with how far you can push things and how bold you can be. Try to get nudes as an indicator to whether or not you could get laid and then if you do, give yourself a pat on the back. Basically take it less seriously.
Meanwhile, get out there and start talking to women in the real world as much as you can to build up your confidence and understanding. If you build it they will come.

Your friend is right, Tinder is all about looks. Think about it, when you're swiping on someone, you basically can only judge someone on a couple of pictures and a short bio (oftentimes which says nothing about the person at all). Tinder is basically a beauty contest.
Every society has a physical ideal. In many cases, this is being a 6 ft tall athletic good looking white guy. The closer you are to this ideal, the better off you will generally be on Tinder.
I would say Tinder is really only worth it (for guys at least) if you're at least a 7/10 attractiveness wise. If you're average looking, or below average looking, you won't be getting enough matches to justify using it anyways.
[–]vincent365 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I don't know about the white guy part. "Tall dark and handsome" is what the ladies like (I think)
[–]muse933277 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yup, being tall is considered an attractive trait for men in almost every society.

That cliche sentence means, a george clooney aesthetic.. i.e tan, dark hair and eyes
How many matches is "enough"?
