It's not a myth, it's the place guys get slammed into when they are too chicken shit to try kissing or touching a woman at the appropriate time. You even mentioned it in your post. That's exactly how it happens.
A guy sets the trap himself. He creates an opportunity to be with a woman romantically. He creates a relationship with her, established attraction and interest, then when it's time to make a move and just kiss the girl, he drops the fuckin ball.
He gets her alone, they're on his or her bed. There's sexual tension that he feels, she feels. Then he pops that balloon by being a chicken shit and asks, "Hey so, we've been hanging out a lot. Do you want to go on a date with me?" Or "Hey, do you think you could see yourself dating me?"
Boom, respect gone. What the hell did you think all of this was? This is the moment you just lean over and give her a kiss. You don't ask for an agreement from her that you will both suddenly be girlfriend and boyfriend after she says, "Yeah totally, dude!"
A woman has no idea if you're a good kisser. She has no idea if you're a psycho. She has no idea if you'd make a good boyfriend. Why would she agree to this fantasy when you haven't even kissed yet?
Why would she have any respect for you sexually if you can't even just kiss her? If you've got to ask, then the answer is, "Oh, we haven't ever kissed or touched. We're just friends, dude."
The friend zone doesn't have to exist, ever. That's a true statement.
You can have friends. You can have relationships. If you want to avoid the friend zone, then don't ever put yourself into a private situation with a woman and pussy out when it's time to touch or kiss. If she says no, then respect that and get out of that private situation and don't ever put yourself into a private situation with her again.
You know what I don't do with friends? I don't invite them into my private setting. I meet them in public places. I meet them around other friends. I meet them with a specific activity involved.
What separates friendships from physical relationships? The physical part. I don't kiss my friends. I don't invite women into my fuck sanctuary that are attractive to me, unless I'm going to touch/kiss her.
And women don't agree to step into my private sanctuary unless they plan on getting touched or kissed.
Coincidentally, none of them have ever said no to my physical advances once inside my private sanctuary. They know exactly what's going down that night. And you should, too. Then you'll never see the friend zone again.
P.s. Absolutely respect rejection of your advances, especially in private places. There's no reason to make a woman feel fear or disrespected. She only agreed to privacy with you ahead of time, nothing more.

And what if a guy(me) has never been in a situation to make a move? When every attempt to create a situation fails and results in rejection?
[–]ImJustSo 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
How many attempts and how did you set up those attempts? Are you actually soliciting advice or just sympathy?
I was fat. I was ugly. I was smelly. I dressed like shit. I had a wispy neck beard. I had long heavy metal hair. I wore jnco jeans and band t-shirts.
I changed myself from the top to the bottom, inside and out. Did I always succeed? Fuck nope. Do I now? Anytime I want to make a connection.
You're not going to get sympathy, so I hope you're actually going to do something about your situation. Only you can change, only you can fix your place in life.

I dont want sympathy. I want change. Ive tried everything. Real life, online dating, asking girls out, being direct etc. All results in "sorry, i just see you that way. Your a nice guy and will make a good husband someday"

So you tell me what you're not doing right then? Analyze yourself, your interactions. Where do they go wrong?
[–]kshebdhdbr 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Lets see. Most recent rejection. Met a a girl at the climbing gym, kept running into her, hit it off pretty well so i decided to ask if she wanted to get drinks later. I wasnt too forward to scare her off and I didnt wait a long time like I did in the past. This is pretty typical for me. Ive never naturally become close to a girl friend like how all my friends got into their relationships.
Edit. I understand that I wont always succeed in getting a date, you would just think that in my 4 years of college so far, id land at least one.

And what was her response about?
[–]kshebdhdbr 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She only saw me as a friend. I obviously misread what i thought were indicators that she liked me. Like playing with hair, flirty tone and body position.

I think OP's main point is that no one is ever "stuck" in the friend zone. It is quite possible to get out of the friend zone, it just takes a little patience and honestly probably isn't even worth it. It definitely exists though.
[–]ImJustSo 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Not trying to offend you here, but you either have no idea what you're talking about or you worded all that in a way you didn't intend.
As it's worded, I just flat out disagree with you.
While I have had women tell me, "I would only be your friend." and later have them go against that, I wasn't actually ever in "The friendzone" because I never crossed the line to lose sexual respect. I never asked them to start a relationship with me. I never brought them to a private place, nor avoided trying to kiss them.
So with all those prerequisites not met, then I was never actually cemented into the friend zone that I described up there, because I met none of the requirements to get there.
What you're describing is a chump that is waiting around being patient to get past an actual friend zone situation and no, not possible, unless the girl gets shit faced and makes a mistake that she regrets.

If your little brother was a chicken shit and pussied out at all the wrong times, what would you advise they do? How would you set them up for success rather than inevitable failure?
[–]ImJustSo 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Stop cock blocking girls. They are way more afraid of what guys can do to them than what a guy is afraid of and for them to agree to be alone with you means that they like you a lot. You just assume from there on that they want the same things you do. They put themselves in the exact same place that you chose to put yourself, with a person you chose and the person they chose. You touch, you kiss, you fall in love. That's how the birds and the bees work.
You don't talk about it, you don't ask. You're both animals and you're both already acting like animals by being attracted to each other and staying close to the other. That's nature at work.

This seems very congruent with the ideas taught in Art of Seduction. If you understand what your friend desires they’ll open up as you navigate their desires granted you understand which cards to play. Some people are easier to turn on than others, most of us just end up finding someone who’s desires line up with our seductive communication. People love to be seduced as much as we love the thrill of being seduced ourselves.

Friend zone exists. It's the place where one person wants more than the other wants to give but doesn't want to sacrifice their relationship
[–]SmoothPrimal 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It’s not a myth, but there are two implications.
First is that it’s HER who keep you in the zone. And that this zone CAN’T be changed.
First implication is wrong. It’s both you and her that keep you in the friend zone. People are dependent on friends which keeps them from taking risks. Escalation is risk and so nothing happens.
Second is also wrong. You can be friend-zoned and then get out of it. Women are social animals, most of their partners come from people in their network aka “friends.” Just think about that.
The friend-zone is just overly-romanticized today because many guys are stuck and like to put the blame on things other than themselves.

The friend zone exists, but it’s not what it’s commonly described as. Girls can’t just trap a guy in the friendzone, it only happens because the guy allows himself to get trapped there in the first place. Even if a girl gives you the LJBF there’s nobody holding a gun to your head saying you have to be confined to the friendzone forever with this girl, you either accept the friendship and pursue other women or move on.
