Eye contact observation

Holding eye contact when you are not in a conversation could be interpreted in a seduction attempt or a challenge / confrontation way. Usually when you look someone in the eyes and you don’t smile in a certain way, it will be the latter.

So, going through daily life and I noticed that a good portion of people don't make eye contact even when you try to look at them.

Good observations..... a lot of people don't actually pay attention to this. What this signals is that a person isn't looking for interaction. They are pre-screening themselves.

It's really jarring that when you do make eye contact most girls and some guys look away quickly!

This says a couple of things:

You're possibly getting a reaction because you're (trying to force eye contact with / staring at) people. If you're doing this, stop non-verbally trying to push your way into interactions.
If they're looking away quickly, think about what you were doing at the time, because this shouldn't really be happening. It's hard to say why it is, because you're so focused on the result, that you haven't really given any details about how you're getting that result.

Simply put, if you're just scanning the area, with a real smile, in a good mood, without expectations, then some people will still not be looking for interactions. But some will smile back and/or signal in other ways that they're open to interactions.

However, if you're going around with a strong need for interaction, enough that it comes off as desperate, then you're going to put people off. What they might be feeling is like when a salesman is near you in the store and you KNOW they're going to interact with you and try to sell you something.

Now it's fun to watch people turn away. It's amazing that most people can't hold eye contact for more than 2 seconds.

It gets interesting when I find a girl or woman that locks in and holds eye contact for 5 seconds. I've only seen it twice, and both times it was inconvenient to cold approach or anything. So I'm still not sure what it means. It feels like locking eyes with a velociraptor. Am I sizing them up...or are they sizing me up???

Yes, this is true. Many people avoid contact but sometimes you get a fantastic smile. Have of the reason to make eye contact is get used to it and to gain confidence. If you look confident, happy and self amused other people will feel more relaxed.
