Don't listen to anyone here , just do it it. You don't know what that specif situation will bring . Sometimes I put on headphones just because I wanna listen to some music, but wouldn't mind talking to people. women aren't monolithic , they do the same behaviors for different reasons.

Walk up looking them in the eye and smiling. Put your fingers to your ear and mimic taking out/ off headphones. They will remove a headphone. Say something like, “It looks like you’re trying to focus on [studying/ reading/ whatever], but I had to interrupt you to meet you. I’m bla bla bla…”
