I have found that it works best to improvise. Read the information that is out there and make something that catches your attention a conversation piece.

Basic questions about age or education or whatnot are an OK place to start if you have zero information and need to initiate dialogue somehow. As soon as she starts responding, you want to start thinking about an appropriate, organic segue into a more interesting topic.

This is why there are routines/scripts/games, because you need such things when you don't know what to say and you don't want to appear in an awkward silence moment.

The good thing is that you don't have to talk all the time, let the other person talk and see where the discussion goes and in this case, you have a new topic of conversation. When she starts talking, it is easier because now it is a dialog and you have things to comment on.

When a girl starts to talk, it is very easy because they "jump" in all the places, for example, they talk like this: "I was at the mall yesterday, by the way, I met my colleague XYZ there, she had a nice t-shirt and I want to buy one like that, I think I know where she bought it from, but I will search the net, last time I searched the whole city for those sneakers and I found them at XYZ, you know that store near the restaurant where they have good pizza, I will go there later... what did I say? Oh, it was the mall... yeah... bla bla bla.", in this way you have a bunch of things to comment on, all you have to do is listen to her and you'll know what to say, no worries!

Forget tech politics and football, ask your date about themselves and look at them while they talk. Active Listening and a couple jokes beats six pack abs every time.

A question I always used to ask on dates was, 'If you could team with one movie character to beat an evil alien invasion, who would you choose as your partner?'

It almost always led to a fun conversation, and whatever answer she gives, it also gives you insight into what kind of movies she likes which can then bounce off into another conversation

While anyone is reading this I'd thought I'd also offer the other side of the coin that has also happened to me and would love to hear peoples thoughts and to help OP have insight for the other side of the spectrum.

How to do the talking when a girl doesn't really ask you any questions on the first date, but she does talk 90% time and carries the conversation?

Personally, as a calm collected dude you're still able to genuinely contribute to her conversation and I think that borderline ok? But I definitely think some back and forth would liven up the conversation and give a better opening at escalating.

How do you talk with your friends? You're typically chill laid back and trying to crack jokes. You gotta see eye on eye on some stuff. Don't stress too much.

Totally forget about your own problems and focus on the other person and just ask random stuff. If you can, start talking about topics you might have commonalities with such as friends/families, work, hobbies, dreams etc.

What you have to understand is your content doesn't matter as long as you make them feel comfortable and let their emotions be on your side.

If you don't have much idea about the person, start with a random thought/observation/ question maybe a curious one but not too hard but just enough to have them included in conversation with a gist of interest. Now what you'll see is single statement can be used to extend to bunch of different things. Like, "I like the vibe of this place", can extend it to what you liked about this place, what other places you like, what different thing you noticed here that is captivating. If you make this look genuine, she'll easily be interested in conversation about 'the place' itself and would throw her thoughts on this. Now you have more information that you can use to further the conversation. She'll most likely be interested in that because now its something personal to her and not that deep to think twice before sharing it. As it goes own you'd have bunch of things to discuss on. Make sure you are also putting your own thoughts out their rather than just listening, this will make them feel to open more and soon conversation will be captivating. If in middle of conversation if you come short of what to talk about now. You can use one of previous things that you noticed but left out, give them a tease or compliment or just another random statement about her. She'll most likely reply to that and you can move on from there.

As you go farther into conversation, make sure you are getting deeper, more personal and are getting to know them at deeper level. So you can at last give them compliment that 'they're are much more than pretty face and they've earned your respect in so so regards', women love that stuff. Keep tease, compliment or neg coming just to give them spike in their emotion at intervals.

And just be a descent guy, and all will be well.

Why do you want to talk so much on a date? Can't just make out or something? Fair, you can have a light convo but if you don't know what to say, just kiss her.
