You don't get them back. The breakup was for a reason. If the reason changed, then and only then is there grounds for a rekindling.

If you say, "only this person can make me happy" that's a lot of undue pressure to put on someone and may be part of the reason the partnership dissolved.

A better course of action is this: learn from how the separation occurred. Improve yourself with this new knowledge. Then find somebody else as a new and improved person who can really bring it to the table.
