This acknowledges that the situation is a little out of the ordinary which builds comfort. You're also coming from the frame of being a selective man which means you wouldn't just go on a blind date with any random chick but this girl seems cool enough for you to break your rule.

All joking aside, relax. A good "Hi! I'm ______" never fails.

Don't surprise them. This usually is seen as a turn off. Be open, friendly, and casual and go from there.

So this worked for my mom who got set up with my stepdad using the line "so i see you know (in your case Luna), thats one strike against you."

Very naturally, very direct. Anyway she already knows you're gonna write. Right? What about something like:

"Hey, this is Fulano, Luna's friend. Nice to meet you."

This is goint to break ice. Then just be yourself (taking out any asshole-like feature).

Ok, to follow up, here's what I went with: Hi Celeste. Our darling friend Luna said I should to say "hi" on here. It's a strange request, though I trust her judgement unquestionably. So, hi, I'm legoblocparty. I don't know a thing about you except that youre into rainbows (note to reddit: profile pic). Based on that, maybe you were at the rally for marriage equality yesterday?

Ok reddit. So I didn't want to jump straight in and set a date up without a bit of banter first. Hopefully I can build some dialogue before moving it to a date. Thanks for all the pointers and ideas
