So long time lurker. I’ve read quite a few self help books and I’m happy with who I am and where I’m at in life. I suffer terribly from social anxiety, have all my life but decided something needed to change. Through the help of books and certain subreddits I finally have some courage.

Walking through the grocery store last week saw a cute cashier. Normally I would’ve avoided her but that day I was feeling brave. I went through her line, made some small talk nothing big. I did notice she had a cute smile though. Went back a few days later and did the same thing.

Today on my way home from work I decided to stop and grab a few things for the weekend and what do you know, she was there. Stood in her line, made some small talk, and as she was giving me my change, without thinking I just said “hey by the way, you’ve got a cute smile”! I honestly couldn’t believe I did that. She blushed and laughed a little and thanked me.

Maybe I was still riding the adrenaline high from finally saying something nice to someone I found cute but I got out to my truck and said fuck it. Wrote down my name and number on a piece of paper and walked back in. I stood in her line and gave it to her.

Nothing will likely come of this, and I may have come off as a total creep but instead of going home and wishing I had done something, I actually did. I’m so very proud of myself as a few months ago I NEVER would’ve done something like this. When people on here say that there’s nothing you can read or watch to help you get better it’s true. All you can do is go out and do it. I hope that this post will inspire a few of you to do the same!

EDIT: She texted me.
